I made a special trip to this restaurant after hearing all the hype surrounding it. Unfortunately, I didn’t find anything special about it. The hot dogs were just standard Sabbrett varieties served in regular supermarket buns—hardly legendary. The onion sauce was decent, but no better than what you can get from the Sabbrett brand. The sauerkraut was so sparingly applied that you could count the strands (and coming from New York, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to cheap cabbage). It certainly doesn’t warrant a dedicated trip; you could simply stop at any roadside "Dirty Water Dog" stand and have the same experience. Today, I found myself in the area again and decided to stop by. Unfortunately, I have to say that these are not Charlie's onions. They bear little resemblance in taste or texture and are more similar to Sabrett's with small chopped onion bits. The unique flavor that made them famous has vanished; the large onions that used to melt in your mouth are no longer there. Even the vibrant red color with flecks of seasoning is gone, replaced by a dull orange that looks like every other pre-packaged hot dog topping. I can only imagine Charlie is turning in his grave. Thankfully, I can still prepare them at home the way they were intended to be.
Amazing food served by friendly staff! I was in town for a visit and hadn't had an authentic Sabbrett hot dog or a New York knish in over ten years. They absolutely lived up to my expectations. I even bought a few jars of onions to take back with me to show the people in New England what they’ve been missing. Food: 5/5!
i 've had the hot dogs before, it seems to me that the onions are not the same, they taste like a mix of home made onions and Sabrett onions which are terrible.I hope I am wrong but the taste is not same as they used to taste
