Yesterday (Aug 8, 2018), we had the unpleasant experience of dining at your Highland Avenue, St. John's location. We are visiting Newfoundland for the first time and your restaurant was recommended to us by friends. When we entered the restaurant, we stood for quite some...time and had to ask if we should seat ourselves. When our waiter, Justin, finally acknowledged us (no smile or welcome), we asked if we should order at the counter. He seemed put off by our question and rudely told us that he would bring us menus. We found his general demeanour to be unwelcoming and he seemed irritated by our presence. We are friendly people and have enjoyed the interaction we have had with many Newfoundla...

Last night, I visited Ches's Fish and Chips on Topsail Road for the first time in over a year. I brought a colleague from Ontario who wanted to try authentic Newfoundland fish and chips, so I recommended Ches's. Our server was very friendly and the staff even offered us mini cupcakes, adding to the enjoyable atmosphere. We both ordered a two-piece fish and chips with dressing and gravy on the side, along with drinks. It took about twenty minutes to receive our meal, but it was worth the wait. Despite trying to avoid fried foods due to high cholesterol, I found the meal to be delicious. The only downside was the slightly higher prices compared to my last visit, but it wouldn't deter me from r...
Outstanding fish and chips with a reasonable price. The dishes are always fresh, and their breakfast is amazing - definitely worth a try. We have enjoyed it multiple times since they started serving it. The staff is incredibly friendly. The only downside was their heating issue, but I didn't let that affect my rating as it was out of their control. The technician was there addressing the problem while we were there, and the manager apologized several times and provided excellent customer service in handling the situation.
OK, you thought that it was in Britain..........well a short 70 years this destination WAS part of the British empire. So Ches's in Newfoundland has not only the historical perspective of being in a city first settled in the early 1500's and the food traditions...derived from that historical perspective but still sits on the doorstep of the rich fishing grounds of the Grand Banks. Combine that with a compulsive quest for the unbeatable gourmet preparations and VOILA the best Fish and Chips globally! Reserva una mesa ahora
Here with a big party today. Someone was gluten-free and really wanted to fries, but they could only have rice. I am vegetarian and wanted a poutine, but the engraving is chicken engraving. Mary Browns also has vegetarian engraving. disappointment in lack of...options for nutritional restrictions.
Would not consider Ches's as the "" best "" fish and chips in town. Tried three different locations now and still of the same opinion sad to admit . Have heard the same comments from others . Batter too thick with small portions of fish . Willing to,try again some time though .
Ches's was recommended to us by a newfie who lives in Ontario . Our server was very friendly , after he brought our 2 piece fish and chips he brought us a third piece because he said the others were small.
I ordered delivery and requested a side of gravy, but instead received a gravy soup with fries. The gravy was poured all over the fries and fish. However, I must say that the fish was delicious. Reserva una mesa ahora
The fish was dry and tasteless. The gravy had white lumps in it.The service was nice and friendly. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CA$20–30
