Chez Boulay was a top choice when making reservations for Quebec City. We found the decor handsome, nicely understated which certainly means the emphasis was on dining. The food reflects the boreal or northern regions of Canada which was quite unique--hence, a salad of cattail...hearts--very unique to us. Our meals were good but, honestly, we were not swooning as we did with Le Lapin. I had the beef cheek which reminded me of a good stew--the marrow and labrador tea gravy were delicious. My husband's Arctic Char was tasty but he found the accompaniments more interesting than flavorful. What a great meal!!! Fantastic dinner and ambiance.. my hostesses/ manager Pascal was no accommodating and friendly. I had no reservations nd he manage to find me a spot. Alex my bartering/server was AWESOME!!! He help me pair my wine with my dinner. French onion...soup, froi grass and lemon desert. Come hungry!!! So many delicious options to choose from.. hands down the best french bistro in Quebec
We ate at Chez Boulay-bistro boreal the last night in Quebec City at the recommendation of our hotel. Needless to say, it lived up to its billing! Wonderful food and fabulous service especially our server Marine. She was very pleasant and very efficient in...spite of the fact that the restaurant was completely full. We would most certainly return when in Quebec City in the future.
Our daughter had recommended one restaurant in Old Quebec, and we lucked out with a no reservation seating our first night in Quebec. Great service, food and experience in this very popular bistro. Recommend their classic beef cheeks and also their vegetarian dish was excellent....A bit expensive, but worth it!

The perfect spot for a special night out. Lively vibe in the restaurant, our server was spot on with his recommendations. We had the braised beef cheeks and fish of the day, and ended with the sea buckthorn tart. All great! Would love to come...back or take the chef home.
We had a wonderful meal for two. We started off with drinks beer and a mocktail, the Inuit. I had the Joue de Boeuf and my husband had the Volaille. The depth of flavour and the creativity and originality was outstanding.
The ambiance, service and food were all fantastic. The Arctic char was light, fresh and delicious. The foie gras and mushrooms were amazing! The beef cheek and vegetables were also incredibly tasty!
This chef definitely tries too hard and misses the mark. The ambiance is pretty, but the food is certainly not worth it. I ordered the onion soup- it tasted and looked disgusting

We made reservations for dinner and had a great dinner- from appetizers, to our main courses (arctic char and beef cheeks), to dessert. Service was attentive and friendly!
My second time here. again. Braised beef cheek was amazing, great wine list. Great service. Trust your waiter and go for the house signature dish. You won’t regret it
