This unassuming restaurant has apparently been operating in this little town for 65 years. To me, it had the feeling of a locally loved establishment, full of regulars but still welcoming to travelers who had sought it out as a destination. We walked up just as the wait staff were finishing their lunch on the patio, grabbed the first table outside, and the place was full 15 minutes later.By this time in my week in Dordogne, I had decided to lean in to the local specialty dishes, so I ordered the very typical duck gizzard salad, which sounds odd to me but was delicious. Stopped here with friends for lunch. They were accommodating for our group of 8 and we mostly chose the local menu at €19.50 for three courses (variations available for starter / main and main / dessert). Our friends had the tomato / mozzarella salad 'revisited' and said it was the best that they had tasted (and they've been to a few *very* good places). For me it was the duck leg confit that I most enjoyed - really well done without being overly complicated. Overall, a great menu, albeit of limited choice, and mixed with a very friendly reception, I'd whole heartedly recommend this restaurant.

You can't fault the restaurant in any respect. From our first contact where we were able to book a table in English via email. They responded very quickly and the table was booked on a busy National Holiday for restaurants.Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived and enjoyed the Menu de Source, which offers all the local foods to the area. Which you could not in any way.After a short period of time the restaurant was completely full. So in the summer I would expect a booking might be essential as Alvignac is only 5 miles from busy Rocmadour.

We arrived quite late and near closing time, about 9:40.... but they were still happy to serve us and promptly found us a lovely table. We decided on a simple omelette. ...omelette Rocamadour. ..... WOW best I've had in France. Perfectly cooked and included a huge salad with walnuts etc. and home made chips.Our waiter spoke perfect English and was still very attentive even at the end of long hot busy day.Highly recommended will definitely eat at Chez Ernestine again. Thank you

This charming restaurant combines a nice atmosphere with good service and good local French food. I had the 19.59 Euro menu, and was not disappointed. The servers were gracious and efficient, even though the restaurant was full. Reservations are strongly recommended, since it Is a very popular place. The menu offers many choices. Overall a very good experience!

The food at this establishment is exceptional along with the service which is first class.The room is inviting and you can also eat on the terrace and watch the world go by.There are many restaurants in Alvignac but I rate this one the best. Well worth a visit.

Unfriendly service. Very impolite! Hundreds of flies around the food! I prefer not to think about the ones in the kitchen. Their answer was "this is natural and clean"???????????? Food not even average. I do NOT recommend!

I'd describe this lunch as functional--the service was ok but not very friendly--we sat outside which is very close to the road. I found the food ok but not as good as other reviewers but wouldn't go here again

Fantastic food and service, child friendly and warm reception. Would have loved to have spent more time but we were on a quick drive through. We will be back

Took the set menu of 19.90 Best price quality diner of our trip in France Great service and great food. Great presentation and affordable wines as well
