This place is impressive! I was most fascinated with the smoking barrels outside. ?The chicken was also delicious and so were the ribs, but I can?t give it 5 stars because of the price. I know it can?t be helped because of inflation and Lake Tahoe prices in general?but it?s worth at least trying it once. Although (full disclosure) for some reason my husband and I were super gassy after this meal. Does smoked meat cause gas?? Is it the elevation? lol ?I?m not sure. Regardless, I recommend trying it at least once! Also I?m not sure if you can substitute the chili side order. If you can, I?d go for the macaroni salad or cornbread, if possible. I discovered Chicken in a Barrel in Kauai nine years ago and absolutely loved it! So, I was pleasantly surprised to find it in South Lake Tahoe and knew I had to try it again. The best part? The ¼ chicken was just as good as I remembered. The staff was very friendly, and I received quick service, even though they seemed a bit short-staffed. It's a great little hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Don’t expect much from the building or indoor seating, but the delicious food definitely makes it worth a visit. As shown in the picture, I got takeout and headed to Pope Beach for a fantastic dinner by the water!
My husband and I were coming from Emerald Bay State Park and decided to check out downtown South Lake Tahoe. As we drove by, this restaurant caught my eye, so we decided to give their BBQ a try. And I have to say, WOW! I ordered plate #3, which comes with five pieces of ribs, and I swapped the rice for cornbread. The ribs were incredibly flavorful, tender, and perfectly smoked! My husband went for plate #4, which includes a quarter chicken and two ribs. The chicken was juicy, packed with flavor, and absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and down-to-earth, making the experience even better.
Found this place in Hawaii, the South Shore location is just as good with the same vibe. As the name suggests, they have smoking barrels set up outside with all their meat that you can smell as you pull up. Customer service is fast and friendly, and they have plenty of tables set up outside and a few inside. You really can't go wrong with any of their food, but personally I think the chicken is best. All their meats have a deep but not overpowering smoke, and are well seasoned throughout. You don't really need the BBQ sauces they offer, but the sauces are also fantastic. Always happy to go back!

Not sure if I can find the words to express how amazing this spot is. A little grungy looking but who the hell cares because this food hit the spot way beyond my expectations. We had the chicken for one plate and pulled pork sandwich. The fries were todie for I would sell my soul for them. Everything about this meal was amazing. Make sure to get the hot bbq sauce to dipeverything in it. I?m from the bay (San Francisco) and would drive 4 hours just to eat there if I was craving it. Highlyrecommend if you?re looking to prioritize your belly. I?m salivating as I write this message.

Food was awesomely delicious. I ordered the sampler plate, Rib, chicken and pulled pork. Chicken was juicy and not smokey. Rib was good, yes only 1 rib, pulled pork was good. My kid wanted a burger but they said it was going to be a 45min wait for that, not sure what that was about so we got a burger from somewhere else.i love that they show you your order and make sure it's all good before you leave. I would definitely go back.

The chicken was nice and moist, well flavored with a nice Smokey taste, and crispy on the outside. We also got the Poboy with pepperjack cheese and that was great too. Also recommended the brownie ice cream sandwich with mint ice cream. Some indoorseating and ample outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade; good for big groups or families.
