Great setting, recently renovated hotel in central Canberra.Hits- Nice setting- mains of steak, chips, vegetables were great.Misses- Slow service, were around 5/6 tables the night we ate mid week. Saw people had to wait for plate clearing/drinks etc. One guy had to wait 10 mins to have his order taken. Apparently was a function on next door- Entree. Had the deep fried pork belly croquet. Was a real strange taste and texture. My partners salmon had a 'fishy' taste and smell. Although entrees were very large.- Depending on what you eat can be expensive, two entree, two mains and no drinks was $160.All in all would go back but just for the steaks which were great. Chips were very tasty as well.

Pros: Steaks and fries are great.Service was great. Grace explained the fish of the day and other specials and asked us about water. Im always scared to eat steak outside as I never get it cooked to my liking. Saeed recommended and promised me the steak would be perfect and it was amazing. He matched it with class of pinot noir which was a good match. He then recommended the dessert platter which was great too.Cons: steak served on board which make it little difficult to eat but not a big hassle. Can be little costly to dine in here but its worth it.Thank you Grace
Attended a workshop here including dinner. There were 10 people. The service was attentive, wines were good but the three course meal was less than average. I had a poached chicken salad that lacked any seasoning and flavour. My lamb rump main was so overcooked it was tough and non edible. The accompanying vegetables were OK. Desserts were beautifully presented and tasty, so the pick of the night. I didn't pay for the meal, nor would I have wanted to as the quality was very poor
Had a really lovely evening. We ordered the shared entree which was a great way to start. A nice variety of meats, pate, cheese and pickled vegetables. Both had steak for main. Wow!! Rib eye on the bone and the tenderloin were both cooked perfectly. We ordered a couple of sides which were very substantial - I would definitely recommend the onion rings and goose fat potatoes. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant, situated in a historic hotel it has that old world charm feel while being modern and bright. The food is excellent and reasonably priced but could have a broader menu. It is child friendly with an outdoor area and TV lounge area where they play shows for kids.
Breakfast had all the usual pieces but they kept running out of things and slow to replanish (small portion display). Otherwise good flavourful food.Dinner is a la carte and the steak I had was superb - medium rare, good size, juicy. very well done. Reasonably priced overall.
The steaks that my son, husband and I had were all delicious. The potatoes roasted in duck fat were excellent. Some more choice in the sides - with a wider selection of vegetables (eg mixed greens or salad leaves) would have been good. Great for a celebration.
After 2 years back to this place. More welcoming with overlooking to history. I had a very well cooked steak with great service on a Monday night. Compliments to the chef and restaurant team, couldn't ask for more. Reserva una mesa ahora
The lounge furniture and quiet atmosphere made this a good place for a pre dinner cocktail. It was busy for Mother's Day in the afternoon ans seemed very popular for afternoon tea

"Comfortable, clean, attentive service. The portions can be inconsistent. I ordered the Avocado bruschetta, unfortunately it was drowning in a heavy balsamic thickened sauce which totally overpowered the delicate flavor of the avocado"
