After a long day at work, my colleague and I ventured into Winnie's relishing the chance to enjoy a pint or two of decent beer and some good food. Both of us were wearing running shoes but were otherwise clad in long sleeved button up shirts and clean jeans. Not beaters, shorts and flip flops. Not mud caked work boots and sweaty t-shirts with scruffy pants. Neither of us had seen a razor for a few days, but a bit of facial hair never does Brian Blessed any harm. My friend and I had such a great experience on our visit to Churchills, at Lesley's suggestion, we visited Winnie's, housed in the same building. It has a wonderful dark wood, cozy atmosphere. There were 3 television screens, but the way they were positioned, they didn't interfere with the ambiance. They have been experimenting with putting tapas on the menu, and are having terrific success. We shared one of them....Cultura Caesar....the "smokey glass dome" presentation....very special and SO GOOD! We also shared one of their special burgers...equally as flavorful! We didn't want to spend a lot of money for dinner and we thought this pub would provide that. It did. There wasn't any room in the pub to eat, so the waiter had us sit in the Churchill restaurant but said we were welcome to order from the pub menu. We actually ordered from both menu's. A very large mussel in a white wine cream sauce for 12.00 that four of us split. If I could have eaten the cream sauce with a spoon I would have, but my husband would have frowned at that...My daughter and I had the chicken curry with nan which was a very English style curry. We ate here based on some locals recommendations. The food was very good but pricey for a quasi-pub atmosphere. The menu was very, very limited with just 5 options. Make sure you order the prime rib sandwich - yummy!
