The guac chips are a fun make your own chip experience that kinda forces you to be present at the dinner table which is missing in so much of American life. The tacos felt fresh and made to order. Some places the taco filling can feel like its been sitting under a heat lamp tanning all day just waiting for you to order. Don't even get me started on the mole sauce at this place. I'd make it my toothpaste if there weren't dire repercussions for brushing one's teeth daily with it. The drinks were not just made well and tossed in a glass they have custom serving containers for each and that attention to detail didn't go unoticed. The service was subpar during our visit this evening. We were seated at the furthest table in the back corner and our waitress seemed more preoccupied with a large party behind us. We had to flag her down for everything, including refilling our water. The only time she was friendly was when it came time to select a tip amount using Apple Pay. I didn't try any cocktails, so I can't comment on that. The food was decent, but there are at least three other Mexican restaurants in Columbia Heights that I believe offer a more authentic experience. Overall, aside from the ambiance, this restaurant doesn't have much else going for it.
I am able to enjoy Mexican cuisine without any stomach or PCOS issues at this restaurant. The dishes taste like homemade food with gluten and dairy-free options available, which is a great advantage. The staff is friendly, kind, and attentive. I suggest visiting during the holidays as they serve a delicious ponche. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We were travelling from the UK and really wanted to have some authentic Mexican food before we left, Cielo Rojo exceeded our expectations. Whilst the indoor setting is beautiful, sitting outdoors on a sunny day was spectacular. The food was mindblowing and there was hardly any wait at all! I'd recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Maryland

I have been to Cielo Rojo on a couple of occasions. The quality of the service, food and atmosphere is always excellent. Their great Oaxacan-inspired dishes distinguish them from other Mexican restaurants in the DMV. Cielo Rojo's plant-based options are top-notch as well. Highly recommended!
