Went to this hotel for lunch during the week, reminded us of an old wharfies pub. We were first in the door. At start the reception from one staff member was cold. Shown to table and before you could sit, she's asking what do you want to drink.The Menu was a surprise. Hubby and I both had steak, one with mushroom sauce the other pepper sauce. Damn how fine. Tender, well cooked, fresh salad great chips and the sauces were like old fashioned and really tasty and well made.The "cold" staff member warmed up as other guests arrived and became more pleasant as time went.Overall we enjoyed ourselves and we are going back for lunch again within next 3 weeks.Yes we recommend this hotel for a great lu...
I had never heard of Clare Castle pub until yesterday when some coworkers and I decided to try it for lunch. They offer some incredible specials, such as the $23 Eye Fillet Fridays, which I chose to avoid overeating. The steak was cooked perfectly medium well, and the vegetables were delicious. The mushroom sauce was so good I wanted to bathe in it! The only downside for me was paying $3.80 for soda water, which I found a bit disappointing considering it came from a drinks gun behind the bar. However, if you do drink alcohol, they have a great selection of beverages available. Overall, I would recommend Clare Castle for a great dining experience.
I came across the Clare Castle Hotel when I heard someone refer to it as 'Port Melbourne 's best kept secret for the past 100 years '. Best kept secret is right because in the nearly 8 years I 've been running ParmaDaze it has managed to completely sail under my radar. . I like to do a bit of research on our targets before we visit, but the online presence for the Clare Castle is minimal Their Facebook Page is quiet, the Instagram is the same, It 's almost if they are going out of their way to remain mysterious.
Lunch there for a 2nd time today. The staff were more attentive which made our day better. Quite a few people in for lunch.The food is really amazing, Fresh Salad, Tasty and tender steaks cooked as requested, some of the best tasting sauces we have had.Service was fast and efficient.This is not the "Trendy" pub of today but a goodie from Yester year. GREAT FOOD GREAT VALUE. My family have been going to the Clare castle for the past few years and you cannot fault it especially value for money. They have regular offers including all meals for $18 on a Saturday night. The staff are very friendly and the meals are fantastic. Lamb cutlets and the steak with mushroom sauce are my particular favourites but the parma and sizzling paella are also great
A local flavor of a country pub in Melbourne - Port Melbourne. The set up is what you would expect in a country pub BUT this is in inner Melbourne. The flathead with chips and salad was worthy of being in a 5star hotel; crisp on the outside and tender inside. The calamari with the same was more mediocre tho' Great find in Port Melbourne especially with all week long specials.
Great food, good service, great atmosphere. First time going there, the live music was a nice surprise and the porterhouse steak I ordered was big and tender and a spot on medium rare (which you don’t often come across in pubs). My girlfriend is a Parma connoisseur and she loved her meal. Overall I’d recommend Clare Castle for late lunch/dinner.
