"Had written this place off since it had changed hands. It went way downhill the food was unappetizing and the hygiene rating declined from 5 to 2. Went back tonight and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was still small but the choices were appealing and the food we ordered (steak sandwich, cod and chips) was well cooked and tasty. A great improvement from last time! We didn't have puddings but I noticed that the puddings too, looked much improved more like the attractive offerings in the Ramore. Coffee to finish off was piping hot and good quality. There is a new head chef and it shows! The waiting staff were friendly and helpful. That never changed but they were let down by the poor quality food they had to serve. It is so good to be able to enjoy a meal at The Counties (Portrush Atlantic Hotel) again."

We headed up to Portrush and booked into the Atlantic Hotel. The check in time was 4 pm and although we arrived a little earlier our room was ready. The receptionist was friendly and gave us information about dinner etc but we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening. The hotel was busy. Plenty of families and European and American visitors in Portrush on that weekend. We headed to the Harbour bar for a pint if the best Guinness in the North of Ireland. It was buzzing.. the surf school was out .. the sailing club was out and people were just everywhere enjoying a wee drink and talking. It was just brilliant. There is a fantastic complex of restaurants at the Harbout complex. Something for everyone.. and they don't take bookings its first come first served.. there can be a wait but they don't waste any time and we enjoyed our wSit of 30 mins in the Gin bar of the Harbour bar . There was a young guy playing music and everyone was in such a good relaxing mood. We went up to the kiwi bar on the Main Street for a walk after our food which was amazing. First time in a long time I have had such a good sirloin steak , well priced and cooked to perfection. We returned to the Gin bar later as there was music to late and again we were not disappointed. We had a great notes sleep at the Atlantic and a really good hearty breakfast menu in the morning. Plenty of fruit and cereal.. cooked breakfast was plentiful and warm and the staff were efficient and friendly and cleared the tables and left you plenty of space on the table to eat as much as you wanted. Some people took a yogurt or a croissant for later and this didn't seem any issue. We had a lovely night away.. and headed on round to see the Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones and came home along the coast road. A most relaxing night away and we would definitely do it again and stay longer next time. Good value for money break

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, going every time we stayed up at out apartment in Portrush, including all through the winter months. Then it changed hands.... We hadn 't been for about a year as they took off their early bird menu, and with three small kids we always ate early and liked the menu. So...we tried it again at the start of July when I saw they had early bird on again. We were underwhelmed. The portion sizes were very small (for example, three wedges accompanying a steak? , and I complained at the fact the kids chicken nuggets were processed muck....like seriously, how hard is it for a hotel to make your own nuggets from fresh chicken?? Decided to give it another go this week but will not bad back...many better options for good food. Processed nuggets still being dished up, portion sizes still small for the price. I had the pork and leek sausages, champ and gravy. Sausages were loveky , very tasty but the champ was what can only be described as gelatinous gloup, only made palatable by the gravy. The service was very good and the staff were lovely but the quality of the food totally lets it down. Also, check your bill...both times we visited the bill had 'al a carte ' prices listed instead of the early bird prices we ordered. Staff apologized and re did the bill, but I 'm guessing this goes unnoticed by some people.

I am just so sorry I didn't go in through the main restaurant/bar door and then I would have seen they where only given a 2 for hygiene. This place was great last year but it's really went to the dogs. I ordered a chicken salad, there was no chicken in it. I think it was tuna and it was revolting. The people who ordered beside us sent their food back because they found a hair in their food. We had to ask someone to take our order and then had to ask for our drinks after the food arrived!!! With the kids meal you are supposed to get a drink, my son who is three asked for apple juice and we asked was this ok, the young guy said yes. When my hubby went to pay they had added it to bill. When he questioned this he was told apple juice was not included in children's meal. He pointed out that we had asked waiter but they refused to removed it from bill and basically told my husband he should have read the menu!! Well I'm glad I wasn't there because I would have pointed out that I ordered the chicken salad and got sloppy unrecognisable salad instead. For a hotel in Portrush to only have a 2 rating this is very bad considering the prices they charge. My advice go next door to the Adelphi better food, better staff and 5 rating for hygiene.

We have always liked the Ramada. But had a poor lunch on Sunday. You may think this is picky but there were a lot of little details they got wrong. My wife had a Steak sandwich which wasn’t great, disappointing as The Ramada of old never put out sub standard food. I had a Bangers, Mash and Summer Veg. I think this lunch needs a reasonable quality pork sausage, mash and a good gravy (preferably an onion gravy). The sausages were beef even though the menu didn’t state that, the mash was actually champ (again the menu stated Mash) and the gravy came in a very small gravy boat far too little. I then asked for a little more gravy as I was running out and was given the same small amount again. That was fine, but when I got my bill it had an extra £1.95 for an insubstantial amount of gravy. I’m afraid the food was below par but to add churlishness to the experience I found to be very petty. This just isn’t the same place it used to be.
