I'd been meaning to head to Courtesan for a while, with it's huge red exterior it's hard to miss on Atlantic Rd, but for some reason had never been top of the list. We turned up about 9 on a Wednesday and it there were enough people to make it feel busy but not packed. You can sit in the bar area for drinks and then there's a bigger restaurant area further back. I= It's an odd place the Chinese courtesan theme is apparent but not ridiculous (Bubba Gump springs to mind as an example of a ridiculous theme and it's nowhere near approaching those depths). Me and a friend decided to have dim sum for lunch on a Sunday, as is a usual tradition on a weekend, so we ended up venturing down South to Brixton to try out Courtesan. A bit of an odd location to go for dim sum, but we're always up to try something (not so) new. It was located about a 5-10 minute walk (depending on your speed from the station, and the exterior of the building looked quite old. The interior was made to look like the inside of a traditional Chinese house (or something along those lines.. the baggage of the future... today! 4 of the best smart suitcases you can buy now (going places.) courtesan: bigger, better, later. released on 2017/09/20 by demi perera. demi perera visits the newly launched courtesan in brixton. when they live in such a diverse city as london, they soon learn that there is a list of pulsating, over cool, sneaking out of the door, “They are not on the list” location that gleams just below the surface. they give this city their edge. you need to know.
this restaurant has a really nice facility and a large menu, it could be a really good restaurant if it was cheaper and if the personal was better. the staff is really rude and eating is overpriced. they can get much better quality and cheaper dimming in chinatown. I was 3 times in the last 2 years in the restaurant and was always empty. I'm not going back. there are much better places in and to eat brixton. I no longer see this restaurant.
It’s not everyday you get a guided tour through a restaurants menu from the person who knows it best, the owner, but that’s exactly what happened when fellow blog writer Tom and I visited Courtesan Dim Sum last week. Having lived a stones through from this Brixton based restaurant for a year it’s mysterious facade had always intrigued me so it felt like ticking one of the list when I finally made it.
complains to find a good dimm place outside the center of london and even more difficult to find one that serves it in the evening! this little place is a jewel. the decor and the thema is brilliant, but not too loud and the staff is super friendly. eating is an interesting thing on the usual dim-sum dishes. I recommend the puffs!
Have dined twice at Courtesan,the second time to give them another go to try and persuade me as to their dim sum credentials. The food was okay, certainly not special but the service was on both occasions very ordinary, and actually quite slow. Probably will not be returning.
