Update: I gave Craig's Kitchen another shot and I'm glad I did. The food was excellent, my order was not exactly what I ordered but I'm not sad about it everything tasted great. I got the fried chicken with collard greens. The chicken was perfect, the collards might have been a tough salty but if order them again. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese for my daughter and she said it was really good, we were both very happy Craig didn't put Tabasco sauce in it like some places do. She also ordered rice and gravy, what arrived was yams. The yams are so good, not sad about the mix-up. I’ve seen this place many times, it looks so small so really never thought to check it out. But when I seen that they have inside seating and it happened to be raining out. WHY NOT? So we stopped over to this place to see what it was hitten for. As soon as you walk in all you hear is welcome to craigs Kitchen and old-school R&B music playing in the background a couple of nice guys in the front with great sense of humor everybody smiling it was just a happy experience upon entering into the front door. The food was fresh and hot, the oxtail and gravy is a must try.
I 'm originally from Jackson, Mississippi and moving Connecticut means I get homesick a lot. I have tried every restaurant in the area that claims to be Soul Food , Southern , or Cajun and Craig 's is the only place that actually tastes like home. Walking past the restaurant smells like my church 's fellowship hall on a Sunday and the food tastes like it was made with the same amount of love, too. 2024 UPDATE: Still just as amazing. Cured my homesickness instantly. Well worth the drive from West Hartford.
The food here NEVER disappoints. It was nice to be able to eat in here as I've only ever experienced Craig's in its Covid setup(take-out window). If you're not sure what to get, just close your eyes and point at the menu, but I will say this....YOU NEED CRAIG'S COLLARDS AND YAMS IN YOUR LIFE!! Is this place fancy? No, but the atmosphere is that of being welcomed into someone's home, and being fed the most soul-healing food imaginable. Find your way to to Vernon, CT and treat your soul.

I had A8 piece chicken with 2 side orders first of all The chicken didn't taste like anything just I don't know Decide what is I wanted for no longer available but was still on the menu so what I got was rice and gravy the rice was Chunky dry It looked like The cook put too much water when they made it The corn bread was in pieces crumbsI was disappointed but I heard good things about this place so I just had to try that's the only We learn Thank you for your Service
Drove about 45 mins to try and was disappointed. One order was missing the meat and the other meats (chicken) was all fatty and whiting was fried to hard there was barely any meat inside so it was just skin. I was not a fan of the Mac and cheese either. Due to missing the meat on one order I called and was told I will be issued a refund to the card which I am waiting on and a free plate in the future which I will not be returning for.
The food was very bland and had no seasoning. Fried fish tasted like it was straight out of the sea. Mac and cheese was dry, yams were watery but was the best tasting thing on my plate.
Food 10/10 EVERYTIME! Never disappoints, smothered pork chops are amazing! Service is phenomenal every single time! Wish it was closer to home but I drive up here for the food any time.

The food can be good but it is hit or miss depending on who is cooking for the day.. Flavor can be the greatest or flavor can be mediocre. Overall ok
