This town pub has an older style and double front, giving it the feel of a converted house. The bar is on the right and the Lounge on the left, making it reminiscent of a bygone era. It's a traditional, no-frills pub catering to a male clientele, with simple decor and furnishings. It's a throwback to the pubs of the past, and visiting one feels like stepping back in time. While they do offer food like sandwiches and chips, it's definitely not a fancy gastro-pub. The friendly barman serves up good ales like Golden Hen and Doom Bar. These types of pubs are disappearing fast, so it's worth stopping in for a bit of nostalgia.
I visited this restaurant during my long lunch break for a pint of nutbrown ale. I asked the bartender if they served food, and he said no. However, he kindly offered to make me a cheese sandwich on white bread, which I happily accepted. The place is a simple two-room pub with no unnecessary extras, but it has a traditional atmosphere that I appreciate. Just a classic pub as it should be.
This pub is the only one located at the northern end of Lydney, making it a convenient spot for guests staying at the nearby motel, just a short two or three minute walk away. They offer a good selection of beers at very appealing prices, especially for someone like me who is used to the higher costs in Surrey.
I went to this restaurant on a Wednesday night with some friends, had some drinks and the food was delicious. The only downside was that they were out of three items on the menu, but there were plenty of other options to choose from so it wasn't a big issue. I will definitely be returning.
