We had friends visiting from Brisbane. I am embarrassed to say that we took them to possibly the worst breakfast place I have eaten at. Now in saying that, it was impromptu, it was Sunday morning, 11am and we didn't want to queue anywhere as we were dying for a coffee and quite hungry by the time we arrived. Crown Street has always served up a delicious meal no matter where you eat and can be relied upon for a reasonably priced good quality 'eat' no matter what venue you choose. Upon arrival at Crown Street Grocer, we noticed they served Campos coffee, so thought well, that's a good start. The grocery part of the place has a nice selection of items and the breakfast menu, whilst not all that interesting, had a reasonable selection. I went with the 'Turkish Breakfast'. The menu claimed Turkish toast, with fried eggs, avocado, bacon, tomato and baby spinach. I ordered and asked if I could have poached eggs instead of fried. I was advised that the choice was limited to fried or scrambled only. I opted for scrambled. My partner just ordered the bacon and eggs on sourdough toast, our friends ordered lasagna and a breakfast wrap. My 'Turkish Breakfast' was first to arrive. The scrambled egg was a square inedible rubbery piece in the same shape of the dish from which it had been microwaved presumably. The tomato was a whole tomato, cut in half, just warmed and still hard (think bad hotel breakfast buffet tomato of the 90's). The turkish bread was hard and had a spot of margarine about the size of a 5c piece in the middle of it. I know that butter vs margarine is a personal taste, put that aside, I couldn't cut it with the knife. Not sure if it was due to the hardness of the bread or the knife. My partner's eggs and bacon with sourdough toast arrived assembled as a sandwich on some sort of rye bread with some apology about being out of sourdough as it was placed in front of him. Our friend whilst eating his lasagne exclaimed it was cold in the middle and so it was sent back for re-heat. When it arrived back, the steam was wooshing from it and it looked like a puddle on the plate, alas the microwave had been at it again! Thumbs up for the breakfast wrap - I guess one out of four ain't bad right?? Wrong!!

This little deli is packed full of cheeses, Italian pastas, charcuterie, salads, fresh fruit and pastries and has a lovely takeout menu as well of sandwiches and daily specials. It is definitely my 'go to' for my morning coffee when in Sydney if I am staying in this area.

Needed somewhere to get a helthy breakfast quickly beforer we left Sydney by car. This was just down the road from our hotel (2 min walk) and the cereal and yoghurt was great - also a good gluten free option to start on our way.
