Dai's Golden Crown Restaurant

Went here for dinner on 11 Jan 2017 with my husband and parents after visiting the Orpheum cinema across the road. Was wary based on prior reviews but am very pleased that service was very prompt on this early Wednesday evening (6.30) and the food of excellent quality. I love Asian food of all descriptions and the more authentic the better. I am consequently delighted at the wealth of these that have sprung up in Chatswood (hawker food of all varieties, Korean, Vietnamese, dumplings to die for Taiwanese etc etc). I also love several of the no less than 4 or 5 Thai restaurants that have sprung up in my local Kirribilli. But there will always be a place in my heart for the good quality Austral...

We used to use this restaurant regularly as the only Chinese within walking distance from home and regularly for takeaway. It seems though over the course of the last year to have slipped though, with the quality of the ingredients and cooking now less than satisfactory. In fact i would rather cook a good stir fry at home than chance another disappointment. Example - steamed duck with mushroom used to use more authentic shiitake mushroom - now just a standard Aussie button mushroom - not at all the same in taste, texture or presentation.Not bad for those that prefer the standard Australian Chinese dinner menu, but no good if you have eaten more authentic Chinese at other more traditional est...

Went after the movies at 8pm empty tables but the kitchen was going full pelt. Sat 4 June Waited 35mins for our spring rolls. Then not so long for a tasteless chicken & cashew nut meal and special fried rice. I never reach for the salt (there wasn't any) but these two mains were tasteless. Soulless atmosphere and no care that we are real customers. Takeaway with menu log is obvious a priority. Won't go back.

Because we dine with Dai's on a regular basis, tonight's meal was free! Bonus we thought! But what a disappointment! The very same meal we always order arrived with half of it missing. A normally delicious combination wonton soup served with the combination in one container and the broth in another to be combined when ready to eat arrived a thick gooey stodgy mess in one container. Dai's is the archetypical Australian suburban Chinese restaurant: a little old fashioned, with rather suspect decor, service offhanded and lacking finesse and a menu which looks as though it is little changed since the restaurant opened apparently 25 years ago.BUT there is a good choice of traditional dishes and the food is consistently very good in quality and value.

Do not waste your time and money here. Below average food, stuck in the 70's style food. After ordering a small entree, waited an hour and 10 minutes for 2 main meals. Served the first dish. That went cold while we waited for the rice. Chunks of spam or something else in the fried rice. All meals extremely oily. Glasses for drinks were greasy. Never returning.

We had an excellent dining experience here. Came for dinner before a movie across the street and was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, the food selection great and delicious and very reasonable. The staff was friendly and helped to contribute to the traditional Chinese ambience of the restaurant. Will return.

OMG. Do not go here. I found an intact, large cockroach wing in my food here. How disgusting! This restaurant had already been reported for foul hygiene but we thought it had mended its ways. I am sick with disgust. Reserva una mesa ahora

There's nothing better than a good Chinese meal and this restaurant gives you just that. Menu is quite extensive. We love the San Choi Bai as well as the Honey King Prawns and Mongolian lamb. Can recommend them all.

Food was good, prawns especially so. Service was friendly with out being intrusive. Overall a good dining experience.
