Don't be turned away by the outside front of the restaurant, the inside is much nicer albeit not to everyone's taste. But the food is! Franz Tösch offers seasonal and regional (pannonian) dishes all of which we had (and were 8 people) were very skillfully prepared. They also offer a surprise menu (with or without accompanying wines) which is not on the menu. Portions are rather large, so skip lunch when going there for dinner... The service is very knowledgable but a bit too ingratiating as far as I am concerned. It was very disappointing that I had ordered my meat "blue" (and reiterated this point twice) and got it medium-rare; the waiter didn;t seem to be bothered and shrugged my respective comment aside; they also didn't have much patience with us when we were the last table in the restaurant. Overall however, a ighly recommended restaurant.
If you like to have a big place for your own, you are in for a treat! A former building actually, now a hotel, offers nice rooms, in different styles (the rooms are all different), in a good location, about 15-20 walk from the lake. The breakfast was very nice and the kitchen makes you feel like home. There is no staff there, so you have absolute privacy. In the morning you will be served by somebody, who already prepared you breakfast in advance. Make sure to get the rooms at the higher level, to also get a nice terrace and view. I would definitely book it again since it is also price reasonable. The restaurant across belongs to them as well and it looks very nice, although I did not get a chance to try it. Next time!
Took us about four years to finally get there ... and still the expectations were quite fulfilled. I was impressed that Mr Tösch himself took my coat to the wardrobe - to me this is a sign of high-quality service when the owner seeks contact with his guests. Also the waiter was really kind and not too stiff as it could be expected in such an environment. The food was delicious tough to me it looked a bit better than it tasted. My expectations on Tafelspitz might have been different. Nevertheless I would go again and try something else ... most of all I appreciate the regional products they use. Thumbs up!
