This fairly new restaurant is a nice place to have a good but reasonably priced Indian/Pakistani meal. The room is fairly large, simple, and modern. The menu, fairly simple, offers different dishes (chicken, beef, veggie, fish, etc.) served with rice, naans, a complementary soup, etc. Quantity was OK for a lunch although a bit small (lots of rice, far less meat and veggies); price (under $10+tx) each was fair for what we got though. The food we had was of very good quality (great chicken curry!). The server was very friendly but not very proactive and, appearing to also help in the kitchen, somehow neglected the room at times. We have been here twice now. Once we ordered of the menu and once we had buffet. Both times the food was delicious and cheap. It's a basic atmosphere and quick service, not somewhere for a long leisurely dinner, but a great place for a quick lunch or some take out. The only minor complain is the buffet food could have been a bit hotter, but we got there technically just as it was closing, so we were lucky to still get the buffet at all. It's a very small buffet, but it was still nice to be able to have a little more variety than just choosing one plate. We will go back for sure!
Our experience at Desi Meal Restaurant was very good. It was close to the airport so we stopped in. We had the Tandoori Chicken Combo and Beef Korma, they were both very tasty. We shared a homemade samosa which was very good. The staff was...very pleasant. We just missed the lunch buffet and since we didn't live in St. John's we will not be try it.
The food isn’t great. Even if you are hungry you will have a tough time eating this stuff. There aren’t many choices in this town for Indian food but this one is not worth a nickel. A good choice is the St. John’s market food...on Saturday and Wednesday evenings. There are several vendors that have decent Indian food.

I had the chicken Biryani here, and it was delicious! Not too spicy, just right. You can find Indian products and groceries here too, and the host was warm and really friendly!
The butter chicken is honestly the worst I’ve ever had. The sauce tasted like tomato sauce with some milk in it. Yuck. Will not be going back soon.
Butter chicken tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. Portions were small. Beef korma was very fatty. Samosas were good but not enough to go back.
Owner server was quite congenial. Food was good but fairly plain. Portion size was ideal Economically priced

Best Indian food we've had in NL, dahl, tandoori chicken and Biryani was amazing!
