I chose this restaurant based on reviews. It is in an older part of town in a large old home that was converted into a restaurant. The service was good. I ordered an entrada that was tostones topped with shredded beef in tomato sauce. It was OK but not so tasty that I would want it again. For the meal, I ordered the beef churrasco with French fries. A lettuce, tomato and pickled onion salad came with a light cilantro dressing. It was OK but could have stood a little more flavor. The meat was a good portion and came with a type of chimichuri topping and a piece of boiled yuca (cassava) with a light garlic and oil topping. The cut of meat was not skirt steak and the flavor was OK, nothing spec...
I visited Donde Mama for dinner. When we arrived we were the only ones there, but according to our waiter (Carlos) it was because of the Fiesta de la virgen del Carmen . So we had our choice of table and the full attention of Carlos who was very knowledgeable, patient, and nice. We started with the Chicharon, limonada de hierba buena, and the cóctel de la casa (some kind of mojito with a fruit called corrozo). As a main I had there signature fish dish, which is Filete Cabrito. This dish was delicious. It comes with yucca and coconut rice. The rice was a bit too sweet for my liking. My friend had the bistec con yuca, which was also delicious. To finish up we ordered pastel de yuca con helado....
Stumbled upon Donde Mama while headed to a different restaurant. The smells were so enticing that we decided to try it. I do not speak Spanish well but no worries, The owner Jorge came out and personally translated the entire menu for me and my friend and made several recommendations. The food was wonderful. Jorge came and checked on us during each course to make sure we liked what we had chosen. I highly recommend Donde Mama for a tase of traditional Colombian cuisine!!! Thank You Jorge!!! Donde Mama is a nice old house that offers a very good ambience. The place is located in downtown Barranquilla (Prado district). The food is simply delicious, genuine and traditional !! The place is over any expectation...Also, the service is excellent, timely and friendly. Also note that prices are very reasonable. A great experience!! It was our last day in Colombia and what a better way to finish our trip. Typical food with a very good explanation of every dish. We had the lomo cabrito and it was just perfect. For dessert a yuca cake, it was way better of what I expected. The waiter Carlos was super nice and a big help for all our questions. Totally recommended!!
This restaurant was a great find. Indulging in local food served beautifully and very good quality was above my expectations. I will go back on my next trip. Servicio muy bueno. Angel was an angel. Tenía décadas de no comer pescado cabrito. El chicharrón con limón, yuca y suero, spectacular! And the Capresa criolla, wow.
We have been in Colombia for 4 days so far, and our meal here was the best thus far! I would highly recommend getting the typical/traditional plates. The mote con queso, patacones, and the arroz con cerdo were especially delicious. Ths portions are also generous as well! Definitely eat here if you have the chance.
