I went with my 6 year old daughter this evening to the restaurant. The lady who served us was really lovely. She seemed to go that extra mile with my daughter. Showed my daughter all the Christmas decorations and let her play with them. The starter of the chicken goujons was really nice, enough for me and my daughter to share. Kids meal was very good value, she had a burger chips and ice cream. I had the fish, chips and gravy. The fish was nice, the chips were really rubbish (overcooked and mostly the scraps at the bottom). Was really disappointed with the chips especially because in the past they have been really good. I went to the takeaway section of the restaurant, placed my order, and then stood back near a table by the window. I noticed that the table wasn't properly fixed and I accidentally caught my skin between the tables as they were not secured properly. I didn't say anything as the two young employees didn't seem to care. The fish was good, but the chips were not great so I left them. It made me realize why I hadn't been to this restaurant in a long time.
Don't give these people your hard earned money. Very rude, can't even be bothered to look at you when serving. The fish portions have become smaller and smaller this year, it's very expensive for what you're given. They are only bothered about fullfilling the Just eat and Deliveroo orders and ignore customers in the shop. It used to be much better than this but has gone downhill over the last few months, we won't be going back.
The entrance and the step was absolutely filthy . Put me off straight away and on entering the cafe we just turned around and walked out . Floor was filthy , looked like dried on cola all over . The tables were so worn and awful. Strange smell , didnt even smell nice of fish and chips . Make no wonder it was empty at 4.30 on Good Friday . The other Drakes are lovely but this place is abysmal .

Yesterday, we went to the restaurant for lunch. My colleague ordered the large fish and chips with mushy peas, while I opted for the smaller portion with chicken for a starter. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring the mushy peas initially, and we had to chase them down to get our food. Despite it being a Friday, the restaurant was very quiet with only one other couple dining there.
I had a pleasant experience dining at Drakes Restaurant on Wednesday evening. It was nice to see new staff working and the restaurant was clean. The food was great and the waitress, Karen, was friendly and always had a smile on her face, creating a cheerful atmosphere. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend a visit to anyone.
Was a bit dubious after a few negative reviews recently, but so pleased that I called in on a Saturday lunchtime whilst in Harrogate recently. Fast and friendly service, superb food, good menu, highly recommended.
the best broken squid I had for years! delicious, fresh, perfectly boiled fish and excellent crispy teig. very friendly service.
