All I can say is don't ever go here if you're looking for quality food.By far the worst meal we've ever had!Starters were ok, ordered the black pudding and nachos. Nachos were just doritis and a bit of melted cheese and some salsa, sour cream and guacamole but fine. The wine was nice as was the margarita cocktail.Ordered 4 steaks medium rare. One came rare and to the others were so over done the meat was grey and so tough we could hardly cut them let alone actually chew them.Sent one steak back because it was so bad and the replacement was even worse. You had to laugh at how ridiculous the night was turning out. Luckily the food that did arrive was delicious but the service let them down big time. Our three entrees to share turned out to be the two smaller plates as they ran out of Nachos on a Saturday night! Only problem was they forgot to tell us, we only knew they weren't arriving when our mains arrived without explanation. The mains were very tasty even though the Chorizo was missing off one plate. We knew we were in the wrong place, the minute we arrived, but friends picked this venue, so we couldn't escape. Apparentely their target group is meat hungry men. All but us ordered some all you can eat meat fest. Our table ordered individual plates. It took ages to arrive. Drink orders in between were forgotten and when the food arrived, I was reluctant to eat. First of all on the menu most steaks were offered with chips, but we all got cheaper and easier to prepare potatoe salad. Attended here on a cold Melbourne evening. No heaters were on. I had to ask the waiter if they could be turned on. A worker then arrived a few mins later and push passed our table with out any eye contact or even a smile and plugged the heaters in. However still did not turn it on. So I did. Eventually other heaters were all turned on. Service was friendly however slow and I didn't speak Spanish so communication was difficult but this is a Spanish speaking restaurant so it is to be expected. Food was nice and reasonably priced. The aromas emanating from this restaurant were enough to have us salivating before we got in the door. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the night. While the service was pleasant, it was slow... more than 30 minutes for our margaritas to arrive and then another 45 minutes after that till our meal arrived, and the side salad arrived 15 minutes after that. An enjoyable experience if you don't arrive hungry and thirsty and are not on a tight schedule.

Typical Argentine restaurant, excellent menu with a variety of dishes, wine list and excellent service, with the capacity to attend large groups, it is important to make reservations especially on weekends, the owner is friendly and helpful.

My partner and I have eaten here quite a lot and love it every time! The staff are so welcoming and friendly. The food (I recommend the asado) is perfect every time and it's such a great atmosphere. We highly recommend El Gaucho!

The steaks were inedible. There was no one to deal with the issue except a very young waitress who was mortally embarrassed but unable to do anything about it. Whoever Cooked this meat had no idea what they were doing. Reserva una mesa ahora

The food was good but the service was average also we wanted the creme caramel with dulce de leche for desert but they had run out. We were really looking forward to it so very disappointed.

the meat was well cook but the cuts were pretty greasy and the salad untasty. Pity as there are nil Argentinean restaurants in Melbourne.
