We fell upon El Real on our first night in Zaragoza, late in the evening prior to getting our bearings. It occupies a prime position, facing the Basilica, as a consequence we accepted it was probably a bit of a tourist trap ..wouldn’t be a memorable culinary experience. We were pleasantly surprised. We kicked off with drinks in the ground floor bar/cafe, a pleasant, laid back space with some spill off alfresco tables in an adjacent covered arcade. Wines were delicious nicely chilled, a good range of beers, but service was rather inattentive. We moved down to the basement restaurant for dinner, a more impressive upscale set up with properly dressed tables exposed brickwork (a former prison apparently). They offer various set menus, a tapas selection some larger a la carte dishes. Food was very good. Service was outstanding, we all really enjoyed chatting to the lovely, super friendly waiter (who had spent time in Peterborough UK). He made a good evening, great one.

for the first time in zaragoza they are easily overwhelmed by the dynamics of this magnificent and vibrant city. on the way to the main attractions, kathedrale en la seu, we went through the fantastic place, full of people, even if it was quite cold. after visiting some of the sights we were looking for a tapas bar: and there directly over the basilica we found this modern but also cozy place. the wine ws good and very good inexpensive, they have several beers on fust, interesting beer, san miguel amsterdam, chicago, prag and more and on a TV screen they showed how the chef made his very creative and excellent tapas. we loved the langostinos tempura, beautifully served with brot and the mousse de foie, delicate and tasty. go.

we sat a bedside table before they took our order. they brought the food without wipe the table that was clear dirty. I had to ask her. beyond that was the fork they gave to my man, there was something black, dried eating on the back of it. they were also rigid with the breakfast menu. is it so hard to order only 2 dishes separately? great location and eating was ok. but the lack of love for detail is inconspicuous.

My husband had the 28€ menu and I had the 35€ menu because we have different likes. We were really pleased with both choices and the wine that was served was very agréable. It was very quiet in the restaurant when we ate there just...two other couples, we ate at 8.30pm and didn’t reserve. The ambience was still very good even though it was relatively quiet. We would definitely go back if in Zaragoza.
