Entre Mares, Vía al El Retiro, Llanogrande (Rionegro,) COLOMBIAAfter a first disappointing visit, we decided to give another chance to Entre Mares Restaurant, located diagonally across the street from Complex Carulla before the roundabout to JMC International Airport. We had noticed, unlike many places in the vicinity which are woefully empty during most lunch hours (except weekends and holidays,) Entre Mares enjoyed many guests, judging by the cars parked outside and is currently working on extension of its side patio. We previously reported the interior shows vast improvement over the unsuccessful Argentine steak restaurant that preceded it in this location. Still rustic, the place is considerably brightened up with extensive windows with views of to the outside, a huge cantilevered thatched roof and periphery lined with nicely tended potted plants. A bar has been set up by the front entrance and wonderful massive shaded chandeliers lighting the slanted ceiling and the interior. The best things I can claim about the present visit are the fresh juices (we had mango and mandarin) which were sweet and rich. I regret everything else was not acceptable. I ordered shrimp ceviche, a popular staple throughout the country. What was served were grossly overcooked shrimp, tough as tasteless Gummi Bears, served in a salsa piquante the was grossly overpowered with vinegar and accompanied by soda crackers and two small slices of avocado. My partner had the Parmesan Crusted Sea Bass (another favorite on practically every local-food menu in Colombia.) It was dry, overcooked and tasteless, accompanied by a perfunctory salad (which was small like a garnish but acceptable,) typical coconut rice (also good) and two patacones (fried green plantains) that were hard, dry and inedible. Our conclusion is never to go back. We also concluded, despite the recent price increase (and unsavory practice listing menu prices before applying VAT, deceiving you to think dishes were cheaper) the best Parmesan Sea Bass in the area is at nearby Mundo’s, where the ambiance, service, variety and food quality is vastly superior and actually worth the extra expense.
