Esca Restaurant and Espresso Bar

I recently dined here for my 30th birthday dinner. Finding a place that had a variety of dishes for the group of eleven (many fussy eaters) proved challenging, but Esca has a great selection and could accommodate us during the silly season. What impressed me most was the service. Our waiters were patient with the kids, and didn't rush us, despite a few guests arriving late. I chose the gnocchi, and finished with brownies for dessert as recommended by a staff member. Both were tasty, along with the raspberry meringue I managed to score a taste of. Staff mediocre, prices would have been acceptable if food had been  good .... the Seafood Cataplana ($39.00) no more than a watered down, salty tomato sauce with very few mussels and (mostly empty) cockles in it and two pathetic slices of bread to soak up the juice with.... all I can say about my Linguine with prawns ($33.00) was that it was cooked al dente... but again far overly salty, and light on the seafood.... Add the $40.00 paid for the wine to this, and we could have bought a couple of kilo of prawns and sat on the beach with a nice bottle of chardy... will know better next time!

An enjoyable enough dinner for the most part, with reasonably tasty meals and an OK wine list. The waitress who served our table was lively and engaging - one of the highlights. The surprise of the night came when the churlish guy at the counter asked us repeatedly if we wanted to leave a tip, even after we directly kept saying 'no'. It's the only time I have ever encountered this in Australia. Maybe he was trying to be funny? Well, it wasn't. It was just rude and annoying. Not in a hurry to return.

Made an account just to write this review. Possibly the worst resturant I have ever been to. 3/3 main meals were cold. 2/3 of these meals were pasta - one of which was undercooked and the other (which was supposed to be gnocchi) tasted like microwavable packet pasta, merely potoato puffs. We should have taken the empty resturant as a sign. Extremly overpriced for the quality of food that is served. If I could give a star rating of 0 I would. Reserva una mesa ahora

Dishes are small for up to $40 a main- you will need to order sides. Certainly not great value given the other restaurant choices available in Holdfast Bay. Service is quite average. Food to be fair is great quality as is the ambience of the restaurant.

Had the Pork Sausage Orecchiette here and it was just delicious! Service was really good too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone else enjoyed their meals too.

Overall the experience was good but the tofu pot was a little bit disappointed They are not using the tradional Tofu but just the dried tofu skin.

We ordered take-out from Wok N' Go this evening, first time from them. The lady was very pleasant and helpful on the phone, and in person.
