If you are craving a Chinese restaurant with the vibe and service of yesteryear, then this is your place. We were heading to a local Spanish restaurant, but the health grade was unacceptable. We quickly searched Maps and came upon Excellent Dumpling. The staff was polite, helpful, and fast. The dining room was filled mostly with locals. This is usually a good sign. We ordered roast pork lo mein, and steamed dumplings, and at the recommendation of a local, we ordered a steamed roast pork bun. I cannot begin to explain how fresh and delicious everything was. I can say though that I will be stopping by again. Very soon.
I will not be ordering food from this restaurant again. The food was not good. I ordered two types of dumplings, duck and vegetable spring rolls, and a pancake with onions. Everything was flavorless and overly greasy. I only gave it two stars because the pancakes were decent, but it's hard to mess up fried bread.
I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch, 7 Pieces of Chicken Dumpling Soup, and a soda. The Sesame Chicken was tasty and there was a generous portion. I was expecting soup dumplings, but it turned out to be dumplings in a soup which was my mistake. Unfortunately, they forgot my soda which was disappointing.
The food is amazing and the service is friendly. We make sure to visit this restaurant every chance we get when we're in New York City, and we've been doing so for years.
