Went for lunch on a Sunday. Waitress was extremely conversational, to a fault. Refused to take one of our orders on the grounds that she knew better and recommended a more expensive plate instead. She didn’t take no for an answer, and the dish she ended up recommending was disappointing. When she delivered the plate, she stood there and told us she wouldn’t be leaving until we took a bite of the “better “, recommended plate. Great Restauant,Great Food,Great Service,Great Portions!. I discovered this restaurant several years ago while taking in the Sidewalk Sale in that area.We loved our first visit.We took the Souvlaki as well as Chicken Brochette in a Combo,the soup was great,the meal was excellent,we had dessert included,we took rice pudding (we loved it) and had coffee also included in the combo price.The portions were great,the food was served very hot,the waitress was so friendly,and we loved our experience from start to finish. Best poutine I have had here in Montreal. Fries are definitely frozen-not fresh cut like they are at les banquises....however that is what makes it better for me. I also love the bacon cheeseburger. Wasn't too thrilled w/ the standard breakfast-home fries were under cooked and not hot at all. Also small portion. I think I had eggs scrambled bacon and toast. Simple and should be no problem w/ such things. I still haven't found a consistently great breakfast in montréal. Best bet for burgers and poutine though. I have to really hold back-I want to eat that stuff every time I come within 100 meters of the place! Oh and I love their pickles too.
I ate here recently and nearly puked. The grilled cheese smelled like bad body odor and tasted like metal and like it was fried on a dirty grill. The fries tasted like some kind of old musty chemical. I ate them anyway and never got sick. A true miracle. How this place got famous I do not know. The place was dirty, had a filthy floor and dirty seats needing dusting. There was a creepy guy working in the kitchen who kept leering at me and looked like someone who works at a greasy spoon. Avoid this one! It is way overpriced too.

This diner really knows how to serve up classic greasy dishes. We ordered a poutine, sub, and smoked meat platter and were all impressed by the quality of the food. Despite the somewhat unappealing decor and menu, we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty everything was. This spot may not offer any fancy dishes, but if you're in the mood for some good old greasy food, this is the place to go.
Although this restaurant is known for its smoked meat, I have found that I prefer their other dishes even more. While their smoked meat is not bad, it doesn't quite compare to other places. I keep returning for their delicious pizzas, hearty table d'hotes, and tasty breakfast options. A list of top smoked meat places is coming soon for interested readers!
During our meal here, Snoopy said she had an epiphany as she didn’t see what the fuss was about when it came to poutine until she tried it at Fameux. As you can see, we really enjoyed the poutine at Fameux. Too bad we weren’t in Montreal long enough for a repeat visit.
It was alright. Our server was very friendly, but it seemed like there were only two servers working and one of the tables had a group of 12 people. The food was decent.

The issue is that the cheese lacked flavor. It was quite plain. Although it appeared small, it ended up being quite filling.
