Good yes, memorable? Ehhh. Saw an article in the TBT for this place and decided to take the long trip from Land O ' Lakes and give it a whirl. Clean seafood, crispy fried, but plain, not much in the spice department and nothing really 'there ' to be memorable, to make me hungry to come back for more. Skippers is much closer and has more spices in the fried batter. FISH DIP was great! Staff was excellent!!! Atmosphere was a lot of fun and the owners make sure you are well taken care of. This place could be a stand out if they found a way to bring in some fresh caught sea scallops, oysters, and shrimp. They tasted and looked like they could have come in on a restaurant supply chain truck. Food portions were average and for the price, I didnt feel like I got my money 's worth especially with the long drive. not thier fault but a consideration we all factor when going out to eat) If your close? go check it out. It may be your type of fare. I liked it, I just didnt love it.
What a gem!. My husband and I were staying at the resort in Ruskin and wanted to find some local hot spots in the area. The highest rated place in Ruskin was the Fish House and I know why! Don 't be fooled by the run down area or scary trailer park behind this place, the food and service was top notch! We shared a large order of fried fish (I don 't remember the type, just their 'house ' fish) and fried scallops along with fries and coleslaw. Both seafood items were incredibly fresh and juicy. The batter was light, not heavy and greasy. Fries and slaw were tasty too. Wish we lived closer because I would make this a regular place to visit.
Timing is everything. I came on a Saturday and learned too late from this place, but they opened again before I left on Thursday. I had the oysters and shrimps. I'm still thinking about the light battery that didn't serve fat. I also tried the desserts (homemade) of the relaxed style just coming from the bay of fishes, this is a beautiful box stop before going home. I can't wait until I get back and maybe I can eat here every night. It's close to the small port facility where I stayed.
