Fonda Marina has a good reputation locally but is known to be more on the top end price range, which is why, despite living close by we´d been putting off a visit. Firstly, while accepting that (for most of us) the dining out budget is always limited, I try to avoid focusing too much on cost and think in terms of value. And by this yard stick Fonda Marina was excellent and well priced. The restaurant is charming and elegant without being fussy. We went on a Monday lunch time and the place was packed (and it must seat 100 people). There are a clearly a lot of regulars as the waiters were greeting many of the customers like old friends. Service was good again attentive and helpful but not fussy. We only wanted a glass of wine each, not a bottle but didn´t like the wines by glass on offer so they found something to our taste. The ham croquetas were excellent (lots of small ones rather than a few large as is the norm) and really tasty. The foie was high quality and the octopus, humus and pancetta starter was outstanding. We went for the marinera rice for the main course which was also very good. I prefer a slightly spicy seafood rice (should have chosen the meloso with lobster will do next time) but there was no questioning the quality of the ingredients and cooking. The desserts were fine; in general not a course I get excited about but at 7 euros more or less each also good value. All in all, while you can´t say it´s a cheap meal I would never call it expensive for the quality. There is a lunch menus for 33 euros with 4 starters and a rice of the day dish which is more that good value. Fonda Marina has just made it on to my list of personal favourite restaurants to visit whenever there´s a special event or I am feeling a bit flush. I can´t wait to go back.
Four of us who live locally went Satuday night, spent 110 euros. We were 40 minutes late for the time booked but that did not excuse the cold, uncaring service we got. Not untypical of Catalunya, never felt that we were a valued customer, just a nuisance. Food was fairly OK and not cheap. No indication on the menu that vegetarian was an option. We will not return. Oh and they tried to charge us for 4 beers when we had 3. Again not a strange occurence around here.
Had the pleasure of enjoying a business lunch here, wow what an excellent place to have lunch (and I guess diner also). Typical starters to share at the beginning (the Jamon and bread with tomato paste) and for everyone separately a so-called Russian Salad. Main course fish was also absolutely fantastic. Not know to the tourists, but very much worth the drive if you are in Barcelona and surroundings. Plenty of parking around the corner.
Long time willing to come to la Fonda Marina and we probably had too many expectations as we left quite disappointed. The place was just correct, definitely not outstanding...while service was not too much friendly... Food was quite good, but scarce for the price... All together something I'm not willing to repeat.
