Fontina is a long time Pleasanton mainstay, but for some reason I 'd never dined there. After a wonderful work lunch a couple of days ago, it is now on my list of go to restaurants for a classy and tasty meal. Fontina is in a tall red brick building off the small plaza at the intersection of Main and Angela, in the heart of Pleasanton 's charming downtown. The restaurant has several small shady tables outdoors, but there were ten people in our party, so they seated us inside. I was the first to order. Saturday brunch: Salmon Benedict was fantastic. The food and presentation was superb. The benedict was extremely flavorful with potatoes, fruit garnish and the salmon benedict. We substituted the benedict Ciabatta bread for sliced tomatoes which added a nice flavor while reducing the carbs. We paid a small amount to split the entrée but the added fruit and veggies made up nicely for the cost. The rocket fruit salad with raspberry dressing started the meal off with a flair. The meal started off with excellent bread and a excellent garlic dipping sauce. The service was superb. Our server was attentive and paid nice attention to details without being aggressive. Came here to try the lamb shank after all the rave reviews and it was flavorful, just a bit daunting when you see everything smothered gravy but it worked. The lamb shank was tender and still a little gamy, which I loved, the mash potatoes seemed to have a shaving of lemon zest which added a positive note to the flavor and the vegetables worked well. My friend had the filet shrimp and loved it..tasted mine and agreed it was a great dish. Only complaint would have been the cocktails, the purple rain was bit greenish and my Italian Greyhound (grapefruit based drink) didn 't quite meld well with the vodka, it accentuated the bitterness of the grapefruit. The food is ok,... I mean it used to be better. In our experience, it was the service that is a letdown. The last time when we were there, our pork chops and seafood were on point. Not a fan of the soggy vegetables and the thin mashed potatoes used in the dishes though (did I hear someone say they take too many shortcuts? . Other than taking order, delivering food and check, our waiter, a tall guy, constantly chatted with the people sitting next to our table. No sure if he is the manager. Unfortunately he also served us a few times previously and we were not impressed.

Still coming here ever other week or so, love the owners and definitely because of Farhaad. He gives such great service to me and my boys, it's hands down one of my fav places to dine. The bread with garlic oil is so good, pasta with seafood is consistent, drinks are great. Farhaad is perfect...good prices... Easy parking n outdoor patio is very nice on a sunny day.
We always get to-go from Fontina. They are the only place near Dublin that has Chicken Marsala and their Chicken Marsala is really good. It's pretty cool that they give you fresh veggies as a side. Their mashed potatoes are a little to runny though, but the dishes in general are delicious. This is a great restaurant to check out in Pleasanton.
Absolutely DELICIOUS as always! Had the chicken carbonara Yumm! If you get the chance you must try it. I was surprised that this place will be closed permanently soon. The owner is retiring. Ptown will deffinetly miss it. Farhard our waiter is absolutely top notch. Made everything just right btw great coffee too!

Ordered the salmon fettuccine and enjoyed it quite a bit. A little on the rich side (okay a lot on the rich side) but delicious. Would def. return!
