We dined in the restaurant - had booked months earlier and did not realise there was a change in chef. The menu was good pub food - a range of entrees (we had the crab pasta which was tasty). Mains were proteins from the grill - these ranged from mid $30s to $110+ for a dish for two (suckling pig from memory). We were told proteins didn't come with any vegetables, so had to add mash, chips, salad, beans etc at about $10 per side. We also got a choice of sauce (e.g. jus gra, hollandaise, miso butter).Everything we ate was cooked well. No issue with quality or execution. Table ready on time. Staff professional, friendly and attentive. Only one of us had entree and he really enjoyed the raw fish. All four of us had the rack of lamb and the waiter recommended the sauces. We ordered 4 different and the horseradish and chimmichurri were my favourites. No room for dessert so we shared a cheese plate. Wine list was good and we enjoyed a Reislingfreak No.2 to complement the meal. All up, a reasonably expensive meal but well worth it. We would visit again.
We had a great dinner after the glorious win from our team, we had booked a table for 8.15 so we arrived a bit earlyand had a drink in the front bar it was busy and noisy with friendly people having a good time.We sat right on time and and excellent quality dinner the service was professional and very attentive flowing at a good pace.The food is good and well prepared and with good wines you can not loose, pricey but it is worth it.Recomrnded
As there was a change in owners thought would be worth a visitStarted with crab cakes to share, tasty but very close to burntFish and chips main, light batter, but the fish was bland. I had chicken schnitzel with mash, beans and gravy. The schnitzel was a cut above, delicious. The mas was deliciously creamy but unfortunately a bit cool. Teething problems I think, due to a recent overhaul to the menu and the staff. Still one of my favourite pubs. The food is still very meat centric, very "manly". I could do with a few more salad dishes (but substantial ones).
Positives. Nice setting, comfy, staff were good. The entree (squid) and main (linguine) specials were really great. The rest was ordinary at best. Ran out of the side dishes. Rib eye for 2 wasn't rested and plate full of blood. Prawn entree over cooked and dry. It was acceptable if you were eating in a pub at pub prices but not the experience we expected for the price.
