Gabriel's Gourmet Café

Try as I might I cannot fall for Gabriel's the way other local's have. I just do not get why they want to do Cafeteria ordering. I love their branding and intentions. My food has been at times good, not great, and sometimes poor. Soup's were very enjoyable. However, the service is thumbs down. The café style of ordering, the rudeness, no one checks on you, yet I pay and tip at the counter before I receive anything. Not fun hungover on the patio, as they bring your coffee out, then tell you the cream and sugar is inside. Go back in. Go back in to get Salt and pepper, go back in to get hot sauce. So read reviews. Had to try. Very fresh food. BUT coffee cup grungy inside badly so hubby could not drink coffee. Hubby very politely brought to attention of waitress " oh that's just a stain every cup gets after being used for coffee!" Took it away never seen again. My husband is sixty plus Been drinking coffee for years in restaurants and had never seen a grunge like that He knows coffee lol knows coffee cups lol washes coffee cups lol. Food tasted great. BUT...

A very nicely appointed eatery in Nanaimo, Gabriel's feels a little hippie, which isn't a bad thing. You order and pay up front, and then grab a seat and wait to be served. Their breakfast options are a bit different than what you'd find at a vanilla restaurant (refreshingly so). I had the cream cheese scrambled eggs with smoked salmon in a tortilla - very nice, and generously proportioned too. Definitely worth a try!

I love the focus on locally sourced ingredients. And the fact that they grow their own herbs, etc right on site. My experience of the food is that it's always been very good. The coconut pancakes....yum. The falafel wrap is delicious. Outdoor seating in summer, so we can bring our dog. Very busy and popular restaurant. Get there early if you don't like a crowd. Gabriel's is in the heart of downtown Nanaimo. Their menus are on clipboards that you grab on your way in, and order at the counter. They have a creative menu with ingredients sourced from local growers and producers. Staff is friendly, helpful, and service is great. The bathrooms are also very clean.

It's worth asking a local! We were sent here for breakfast. It is a bustling place, with delicious, locally sourced foods. We really enjoyed it & their attention to detail was greatly appreciated!

They have something for everyone, from fried eggs for my brother, to chicken wraps for my mother and vegan options for my fiance and me, they had it all. I highly recommend it as a casual lunch.

Great local food, eco friendly. You must try the peanut bowl with rice it's epic. They help out in the community. I can't say enough good things about this place! You will not be disappointed Reserva una mesa ahora

we loved it! The menus and ordering format, the food, drinks, local ingredients, even the cute take out containers. Filling and satisfying and reasonably priced!

I got the pulled-port wrap with rice - wow! BC knows pulled pork. With a great side salad and adult beverage for a low, low price. Go there!
