We must have chosen the wrong menu items. We tried the Raspberry Madeleines and the Pistachio Cream Puffs. The raspberry flavor in the madeleines was extremely tart—so much so that it irritated my mouth, likely because of added citric acid, which I'm allergic to. The cream puffs had ground nuts in them, but they weren’t the sweet pistachio flavor you usually find in desserts. As for the atmosphere, I rated it a 2, though it’s not really the restaurant’s fault. The market isn’t designed well for smooth customer flow, so people tend to stand in front of the stalls as soon as they walk in, just looking around without necessarily wanting anything, which makes the area feel crowded. I picked up a cranberry pear and almond cream tart from Gabys Gourmandise, and it was absolutely beautiful! The almond flavor wasn’t very pronounced, mainly because the cranberry purée was quite tart, reminiscent of a Thanksgiving cranberry dish. The slices of pear on top added a nice crunchy texture. The crust was wonderfully sweet, crumbly, and delicious. I also want to give a shoutout to the server; she was very patient and helpful! I definitely need to come back and try some of their cream puffs.
What a find in the Downtown Market. I picked up some Crème Brûlée to share with my family and the lady waiting the counter was friendly.I have to say this Crème Brûlée was the best we have ever tasted. Perfect smooth texture and burst of vanilla flavor. There is really not words to describe this dish, Chef Gaby has perfected it. We just sat there smiling at each other, it was so good you couldn't help but just smile! What an experience, can't wait to come back!!!
New to Grand Rapids, I visited the market and discovered paradise. I never really enjoyed cookies as a kid, but I stopped by Gaby's Bakery and was overwhelmed by all the amazing options. I tried what I thought might be the least indulgent choice: a chocolate chip cookie. Oh my gosh, I'm hooked! Gaby is incredibly talented. If you haven't been there yet, you absolutely need to add it to your bucket list—you won't regret it!

I went yesterday to the downtown market to grab lunch and couldn’t resist stopping by! I asked Gaby what his favorites were to help me decide what I wanted to get. He ended walking through the cases pointing out several, and with each item he was able to share a personal story about why he liked it. The service was incredible, the food was AMAZING. The owner, Gaby, is super friendly. The treats are a little bit too sweet for my taste. Creme Brulee made with real vanila beans was done perfectly. The top caramel crust was perfect, the custard was smooth and taste was good but again on the a bit sweet side for me. I was a disappointed with Pistachio cream puff though, didn't feel much Pistachio falovor.
After enjoying Gaby’s Gourmandise for years, my wife and I asked Gaby to help us with a cake for our daughter’s baptism. Gaby created a custom almond flour cake to our specifications, including that it be gluten free. The cake was exceptional and all of our guests raved about it. Thank you Gaby and team!
You absolutely have to try this place if you're at the downtown market. The quiches are outstanding, the crème brûlée is fantastic, and the vanilla cream puffs are, honestly, life-changing.

Gaby was absolutely fantastic and a joy to talk to. The selection was excellent, and the flavors were incredible. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
