"An excellent place to try authentic Viennese cuisine. The fact that they didn't even both to translate the menu and that you hear mainly German around you, tells you something about the authenticity of the establishment. Turns out the Viennese food is not only...Schnitzel... For example, we had liver in mushroom sauce, and venison with potato croquets. Delicious!"

A very popular restaurant it was crowded with locals on the Thursday evening that we went but the manager fitted us in, even though we had booked quite late in the day. The welcome was friendly, decor traditional and the menu only in German!...However, the very friendly waiter, with excellent English, talked us through the menu and helped us to translate the words we didn't know. The food was superb extremely tasty beef with noodles and plum pancakes for dessert. It was one of the best restaurants we went to out of a very good selection recommended by our hotel. We'd definitely visit again.

Grunauer is the place to go if you want to authentic, comfort food in Vienna. We were able to get a table in September on a Tuesday night without a problem. Our awesome waiter was able to translate the menu for us and overcome our...lack of German speaking and reading skills. The menus are only in German and Google translate will not help you because the food section is a hand-written font. Between us we had the beet soup, beef broth soup, the schnitzel, the steak, two desserts and many glasses of wine for a reasonable price (for us).

This is an authentic old world Viennese restaurant. The menu changes daily and is handwritten. Please note the restaurant is not open Saturday or Sunday so plan ahead. It is best to get a reservation. We come here every time we visit Vienna. The owner...speaks English and will help you with the menu. He is a delightful gentleman and knows what he is doing. This is not your typical cafe fare, but it is typical old world Austrian! Come here and you will not regret it.

This restaurant is really the most traditional we encountered in Vienna. Being off the beaten tracks, it obviously has very local clientele and offers a truly traditional comfort food including a number of interesting Viennese specialties that are not that easy to come by elsewhere,...especially in the more touristy places. The staff is nice and communicative (in English), wines decent, and value great, so we will be definitely coming back!
