This restaurant is part of Gasthof Kohlmayr, at the main square of Gmünd, the Hauptplatz The advantages of this restaurant are the continuous service from the kitchen (no stoppage between lunch time and dinner time) and the outside tables, where a splendid sit-down can be...had, watching Gmünd street life. This continuous service enabled us to have an early dinner (can also be called a late lunch). We had the advantage of glorious late afternoon weather. Cold beer and an excellent Cordon Bleu schnitzel made the sit-down perfect. Service of the staff was polite and efficient. To be recommended.
We knew Kohlmayr from some years ago, when we enjoyed a good late lunch there at an outdoor table, so when we made a quick stop at Gmünd on our way to our holiday home some distance further, we selected Kohlmayr for a Latte Macchiato...and a Sachertorte and a good sit-down at the historical Hauptplatz in Gmünd. A nice early May sun was thrown in. To be recommended for a good sit-down with coffee.
The restaurant is located on the main town square. Inside is very nice with a big wooden bar forniture where you can have a beer. The service seems to be unhappy if you seat there, the food is very low level quality and preparation, the...wiener was very small and dry, also kartoffeln was not good, the lake fish mix have just few pieces of not tasting fish, sad....
This restaurant is located in the centre of the charming town of Gmund and it is pleasant to sit outside and watch the world go by. We ordered a simple lunch of goulash and filled Austrian ravioli' (fleischnudeln). Both were good though maybe a touch...too much thickening in the goulash. Both food and drinks were reasonably priced.

When entering the gasthof/restaurant you have a choice of smoking or non-smoking side, usually most of the smoking people are hanging around the bar which is on the left side, but the owner is discreet about the issue. Menu is quite traditional Austrian. We tried...the grill platter for very satisfied. Recommended.
Kohlmayr's Gasthof is one of those authentic places where you can enjoy the traditional dishes which come with proper hospitality. It is located in the heart of Gmünd and when the weather is nice it also has a terrace facaility at the square.
This was the most lovely lunch we have had since we have been here. The staff were very welcoming and very helpful to us. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the area
This hotel restaurant is a gem. They serve meals that are rich in taste and substance and very well prepared. Try a Cordon Bleu or a Wiener schnitzel. The atmosphere is very nice and personal too.
