Gasthof - zum guten Hirten

We chose this Gasthof on the basis of the recommendation of the in town hotel reception, It is out of town a short distance. If you are a non-smoker, make certain that you go to the non-smoking dining room since the smoking section of the bar and restaurant can be brutally thick with cigarette smoke. The staff were extremely friendly, competent and spoke English. The menu was mostly traditional Austrian. The dishes were very flavorful, perfectly prepared and reasonably priced. The Jagerschnitzel with Spaetzle (11.20 Euro) was especially delicious. The spaetzle was obviously home-made and was the best Spaetzle I have eaten in a restaurant and was EXACTLY as I make it at home. The Zwiebelrostbraten (14.80) was also excellent.The Palatschinken was lovely. The delightful English-speaking owner came out and chatted with each table.
