"Excellent way to experience traditional North German food. Neat atmosphere in an old building with dark wood and old photos throughout. Expect to find your Oma and Opa eating here, in one of those places that makes you realize if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

We walked past this well located restaurant on two nights, on both nights there were lots of people there. We tried to get in, no chance. So we made a reservation for the following night. It was worth it. The atmosphere, as well as the service, were as far from fashionable high end restaurants as they were agreeable. The place looked the way it probably looked ten, twenty, thirty or even forty years ago. Part of the clients were also the same. The group that left before we were seated, greeted the waitress with warmth that could be interpreted as years of shared restaurant visits. She greeted back. Excellent. The food, nothing fancy, but good. For example Lotsenteller, pilot's plate, local seafood (matjes, forelle, shrimps, prawns etc.) is to be recommended. Or the onion soup, or,... Dinner for two for forty somethin euros, starters, main and drinks.

This restaurant is in the area called Schnoor, the oldest part of Bremen. We had lunch here and we were lucky as the weather was great and so we could eat outside. Small tables with red and white square tablecloths. There is an easy lunch menu (have not looked at the main menu) with different options and good prices. We went for the traditional currywursts and beer which was good (we decided to re-order!) other dishes on other tables looked good if you need more food. Staff was nice and the atmosphere good.

Authentic German food and atmosphere. Simple home style food in an engaging atmosphere with friendly service. The tables around us were enjoying card games, beer, and in one case a pipe - if you hate the smell of smoke be advised! The food presentation is lacking but most of the dishes we ordered were good. The pork, potato, and egg dish was the favorite for our group with the breaded and pan fried fish coming in second. Very good beer and wine.

Typical city food (Matjes, Lotsenteller, etc.: it's fish) but most known dishes are available too. Beer and potatoes are the main characters of the meal but this is normal in every German restaurant. The prices are in the average but not for every budget. Cozy place and kind people.
