I reviewed this little gem in 2016 but since then it has gone from strength to strength. We often call in, as we did on Saturday, and can never fault the staff, level of cleanliness or the beverages and food. We had the vanilla and...blueberry cheese cake and a good cup of tea (not weak stuff) At the time there were two groups having afternoon tea and it looked fabulous, three tiered cake stand and plates consisting of sandwiches, scones and jam, a selection of cakes and little glasses filled to the brim with cream and, I think, fruit and jelly. Afternoon teas are served on Saturdays and Sundays but you have to pre-book. On our next free weekend I know where we are having tea.
I was at numerous places in the gatehouse cafe, only to get a coffee, all the way to have a 3-course Xmas dinner. I can honestly say that I never had a bad food/tryat. there is always a good selection of food. on the menu, the specialties are great and the coffee is . friendly staff always there to feel welcome. you go in, sit down and get the relaxed feeling. the personal is always ready for a chinwag. you will not be put down by them. shows the best cafe in carlisle.
my friend and I were out in the car today, unexpectedly the car broke and began to smoke! the dame in caffe ran right in front of us and tried to help her best. the dame invited us all to the caffe and cared for. my friend and I and our 3 children, while the car cooled down. they have provided us drinks and toast for free. very thoughtful and friendly in such a stressful time. in any case, a must go to the caffe, beautiful personal and a beautiful caffe and eat.
We went for afternoon Tea real great value for money never seen so much beautiful home made fresh food, savoury starters then sandwiches had an ample filling in every one the cakes soft fresh cream loads of them Pots of Tea to wash it down... A beautifully prepared and presented funeral tea. There was a huge variety of savoury and sweet food served, including homemade vegetable soup. In fact there was so much that people took doggie bags home. The staff were very friendly and attentive. If you love a...traditional afternoon tea then this is the place for you, and not just for funerals.
Popped in for lunch today, we each ordered a toasted sandwich but didn't expect what we received. As well as the toasted sandwich there was a side salad with dressing, pot of coleslaw and some crisps. All of it was delicious and cannot wait to...go back. Would highly recommend
