Gilão - Reserva de mesa

Someplace between mediocre and truly awful. The special for lunch was salmon--likely because it was old, dry, and overcooked. We also ordered the seabass, which most Tavira restaurants provide at a lower price with a much better presentation. The bill came to E37.50. I could not eat any of he salmon. The seabass was edible. Both arrived with boiled potatoes, one boiled carrot, and a few boiled green beans. BUT the location is great. Very near the river; the sun was shining and we could sit there enjoying the sunshine.

Have eaten here many times over the past 10 years as it’s in a pleasant location next to the river. However, both the quality of the food and the standard of service which used to be excellent have declined noticeably over the past 2–3 years. I don’t know whether it’s due to a change of chef and/or a change of ownership and/or poor management, but it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be which is a shame.

Good food and even better views. The restaurant borders the river and has beautiful views and is worth going to just for that. The tuna dish was very good and was enjoyed. I had a pork dish with a sauce made with grapes however this was sickly sweet with far too much sugar: if this was significantly reduced then it would be so much better otherwise steer clear if you are worried about diabetes.

It was my second time this year at Gilao restaurant. Last year I had an amazing tomato cheesecake,but unfortunately they didn’t have it this year. Nonetheless, the food was amazing once again. I had the seared tuna which was just amazing and the octopus with sweet potato was to die for. To return again for sure Reserva una mesa ahora

Since the first time we visited this restaurant offers two interesting dishes: octopus tempura and tuna samosa. The other dishes are average, sometimes boring attempts at innovation. The location is nice, by the river, the service is quite friendly and attentive.

Lovely lunch here, with pleasant, helpful staff. Food was delicious, highly recommend. Tavira is such a lovely town, I think it s known as the prettiest place in the Algarve, for good reason.
