We dined at this restaurant in December 2019. I am the only vegan in our group, so I was pleased to find vegan mozzarella on the menu. I carefully ordered and double-checked with the server to ensure that the crust and sauce were also vegan. To my surprise, the restaurant used Violife cheese rather than the typical Daiya, and it was delicious. The owner even stopped by to chat with me, mentioning that his wife is dairy-free and they have made an effort to find the best vegan mozzarella. Ginos was a little disappointing and seemed exhausting. The cheese pizza we ordered was fine, but the cheese was very scanned and too saucy. The baked Ziti was just saucy noodles with some cheese blown up and tasted like something we could have just made at home. We arranged the broccoli rave, and the woody garlic trunks remained, so we had to constantly fish it out of the mouth. For the price, I wish they had taken more time to make those articles a little better. The most disturbing part was that my friend and I were called four (FOUR! separate times on the block-long walk to and from the restaurant of men who drive their bikes and scream from their veranda. The baked ziti was basically just noodles smothered in sauce with a sprinkle of cheese, tasting like a dish we could have easily made at home. The broccoli rabe had large chunks of garlic that we had to pick out while eating. Considering the price, I had hoped for better quality. The most unpleasant part of the experience was being harassed by men on bikes yelling from their porches four separate times on the way to and from the restaurant. Our experience at Gino's was a bit disappointing as it seemed like the food lacked effort. The cheese pizza was decent, but the cheese was sparse and the sauce was overwhelming. The baked ziti was unimpressive, basically just saucy noodles with cheese on top that tasted like a homemade dish. The broccoli rabe had woody garlic bits left in, making it unpleasant to eat. Given the price, we expected better quality. Additionally, we were catcalled four times during our walk to and from the restaurant, which was disturbing and unacceptable. The food definitely did not make up for the harassment.
Vegan options are quite limited, but with everyone at all an incredible treat, so we were thrilled to find this charming little stop during our trip. Between the delicious options and the friendly service, the children were disappointed that we did not return on the second day, but I want to venture to new places. The waitress could not have been more friendly and the food was exceptionally fast to come out. Portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. Definitely worth the stop!
There are not many vegan options available, but having any at all is a real treat. We were delighted to discover this lovely little restaurant during our trip. The kids were upset that we were not going back for a second day because of the delicious food and friendly service. I enjoy trying new places. The waitress was very friendly and the food arrived quickly. The portions were large and the prices were fair. Definitely worth a visit!
