Gol's Lanzhou Noodle Waterloo

This place deserve more than a 5 star rating! We went to Bingemans Big Splash water park in Kitchener and was looking for something to eat for dinner. Thanks to the yelp reviews we found Gol's Lanzhou Noodle! This is really a hidden gem! Ambiance: Very modern look with lots of wood! I love it! There's a window where you can watch them make hand made noodles fresh from scratch. It was awesome! That kept my daughters busy while we waited in line. Only downside is it only has 1 unisex washroom in the whole restaurant. Seems a bit strange. Service: We only waited in line for 15 mins but when we left the line up it was out the door way. I 'd been to the Lanzhou noodle shop in Montreal years ago and that place has lived rent-free in my head since then (as attested in a past Yelp rating . I was skeptical that their offshoots would be as good, but somehow, this actually is. (And unlike the Montreal location, you can actually have room to sit comfortably. The noodles are still hand-pulled in full display, and the flavors of all the ingredients are great too. The lamb skewer was deliciously cuminy. I had the tomato beef noodle this time (not on the older menu! , and in addition to the noodles being super flavorful and chewy, the vegetables were all fresh and crunchy, and the beef was cooked perfectly. Hadn't been to Gol's Lanzhou Noodles for a few years and so when I was back in the area I stopped in for a bite. Was disappointed in the limited selections offered. there was pretty much only one option for the noodle soup on the menu with the other option being offered on different days or otherwise not available. As well many of the grilled skewer appetizers were also not available, no pork belly, no shrimp, no frogs legs. Kind of a let down. Ordered the only beef noodle option available. The beef broth didn't have much flavor other than for chili oil. Not likely to return due to the lackluster flavour and limited options available.

Writing this review as a vegetarian, having only tried their one vegetarian noodle dish (veggie chow mien). The dish was pretty bland. We ordered Regular Spicy level and it had no spice at all. The veggies were minimal and had no flavor. The noodles themselves were really good (thick and chewy) but they really need to add some seasoning/flavor for it to be dish I would return to.

Pretty legit when you have a craving for authentic Dan Dan noodles. Flavour was there and the noodles were nice, long and chewy.
