Before writing this review, I reached out to the restaurant to share my concerns about my order. When I called, the staff member who answered said that if she received poor food, she would leave a negative review. So here I am sharing my experience: they operate under the names 'Gourmet No. 1 Chinese Restaurant' and 'Chinese on Main Street' on UberEats. I ordered through UberEats from 'Chinese on Main Street' because I wanted to avoid Gourmet No. 1. I ordered the san choy bow with chicken, but it was mixed with frozen vegetables (peas, corn, carrots, and possibly cauliflower). We were really pleasantly surprised by our meal at Gourmet no. 1. Sadly, there aren't a lot of great places to eat on Pakenham's main street and we weren't expecting much from this place. However, as far as suburban Cantonese restaurants go this was one of the best we've been to. We wanted to reminisce of our youth eating Chinese so we got honey chicken and Sichuan beef. Both delicious. The honey chicken was really crispy and not too sweet. The Sichuan beef was tender and vegetables crispy with a nice sauce. We also got homemade dim sims which had a good delicate wrap on them. The decor is a little dated, however the food and the service makes up for this.
I ordered takeout tonight for the first time in a while, as I've had difficulty finding a good Chinese restaurant in this area. My expectations were low. We decided on chicken with cashews, roast pork with vegetables, and beef with oyster sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the ingredients; you could really distinguish the individual meats and vegetables in each dish, and they didn’t taste like they came straight from a can, unlike other places I’ve tried nearby. While I found the flavors to be a bit mild for my taste, overall, I had a lovely meal.
by chance, there was one night on the way home, it was one of those places. it would be terrible or amazing food. it was grateful! the place is terrible, really dated and scuffy, so if they are after the ambiente, this is not the joint to go, but if they want great service and fantastic authentic noodles - this is the jump! we ordered starter really - many of them, none of us are really in main meal, but saw some coming portions were massive! overall it was great, just a bit of a landfill, but hey, if the food and the service are good, I can deal again. Myself and my partner went to gourmet no 1 last week and The dumplings were amazing and awesome service !! After the new management the food is just delicious and very fresh! Would defiantly recommend!!! Also the manager John takes great pride within his business and made sure our food was as we liked it and if not was happy to change ! Love love it
We ordered a bunch of starters since neither of us were really in the mood for main courses. I did notice that the main dishes being served were huge! Overall, the experience was great despite the unappealing environment. If the food and service are good, I can overlook the surroundings. I'll definitely be back!
Best Chinese Pakenham. As far as Chinese food in Pakenham, this one is the best. We regularly go here on a Sunday night for dinner, quiet, quick, efficient and accommodating. Obviously lacks in environment in decor and atmosphere, but regardless of that, it is very nice.
