Grand Hôtel de Solesmes

We are four couples traveling together on two canal boats. We were able to tie up at the base of the impressive abbey and only a short walk from the restaurant. The service was very attentive and the food very imaginative from relatively simple staples on the seasonal menu, beautifully presented. The asparagus first course with Parmesan and country ham was delicious as we're the other appetizers. Again excellent main courses (pulled lamb with cauliflower mouse, chicken crusted with vegetables, hake) and a magnificent cheese tray, delicious strawberry soufflé, chocolate mouse, multiple sorbets for desert. Quite elegant! A good choice of wines in all prices.

Our family of 4 (my husband and I and his parents), wanted one traditional formal meal during our 8 day trip. As we were staying at the Grand Hotel for the night and it was a holiday, this seemed like the right spot. I was a bit skeptical because the hotel, while very nice and clean, was a bit tired compared with other places we had stayed. Unwarranted as the food, service, pace and ambiance were just lovely. The food was beautifully plated, great wines were chosen for us, and it was quite delicious! The escargot and terrines were wonderful, and the liver main course was incredible. Loved the desserts too! Overall, highly recommend.

We came here after visiting the most excellent Abbeye du St Pierre opposite.A major refurbishment is taking place but the restaurant was still open.The waiter spoke impeccable English and we really enjoyed our food and wine here. There are cheaper places to eat but this is very good food , impeccably served and it really is good to indulge at times. A good fine dining experience.

We turned up without booking, wanting a reasonably relaxed meal rather than a "grand" occasion. We needn't have worried - staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food was excellent - so we came back again another night. Parking at the rear, or in the public square behind the hotel. No dislikes. We are regulars at the hotel and find the choice and value in the restaurant provide exactly what we are seeking. The menus offered always contain old favourites but there is a fresh choice offered daily. The staff could not be more attentive.

Being in the area for the Lemans race, we went to this hotel for dinner, one of the best meals I had in the area. Food was amazing, very nice lamb and excellent soufflé dessert. I definitely will come backVery nice and decently price wine list.

We really love this restaurant. The menu presents fresh products, with a reasonable choice. The advice for the wine is wise and you will find very good local wines as well as grand cru, which are the must regarding the quality of the meals.

Consistently good food on the 4 nights we are here. The cheese course is well worth having. Old fashioned service, but none the worse for that.

the restaurant was as good as the hotel would indicate .plus the food quality and service were of the finest order
