This certainly is not your fine dining gourmet restaurant but it offers spacious seating, cloth tablecloths and napkins, and good food and wine for a reasonable price. We went in for dinner tonight (a Monday night) and the restaurant, which is part of the hotel was about a quarter full. There was one man serving and he was friendly and efficient. We asked for a menu in English and this was supplied to us. They offer set price menu's with choices or you can order al a carte. We are not big eaters so we just ordered off the al a carte menu. I had the duck breast served with potatoes and mushrooms. It is served with a cognac sauce which is just a touch sweet but I found it delicious and scraped my plate with the bread supplied. My husband ordered the lamb stew which was a braised section of lamb leg served with beans, carrots and potato (I notice there is a photo of this dish on this website). He said it was very tender and he enjoyed it. We both had a glass of wine each and the total bill came to 45 Euros. The menu offers entree's, mains and dessert. There is also a children's menu. The restaurant is situated opposite the river and we parked on the road there. We walked in, with no reservation at 7.00pm and there were people that arrived and were seated at 8.15pm. If you are looking for a meal in Saint Aignan I recommend this restaurant.
Grand Hotel St Aignan has been around since the end of the 19th century. And even today, the hotel stays true to its roots. Hotel and Restaurant are run by two generations of the same family who extend a warm welcome to all guests, passers by like us or the guests who stay in the hotel. We were the only non hotel guests during our visit. The menu is traditional, the food is well prepared but not special. I wonder if we would have been given the option to choose the menu di jour of we had asked. The dishes served to the hotel guests looked very attractive.
Pleasant welcome from the lady on the desk. Room was very clean and comfortable and they had put fans in to make up for lack of air conditioning. Good breakfast spread. It's an ideal place to stay before a visit to the Zooparc de Beauval. Only slight drawback is the very small hotel parking space, just off a busy road, and the fact that you need a code to access it. We were told to phone ahead for the code when we were 10 minutes away, but couldn't hear the response due to a bad line. Wish they could just send it by text or email beforehand.
Decided to eat in the restaurant on our last evening staying in the hotel. As it was my birthday we chose the 4 course menu of the day for only €35 each. Food was excellent and plentiful. Almost difficult to eat everything. The staff were very friendly and did not rush us. A very enjoyable evening.
