"Großunterbergalm - the big meadow under the mountain. Very Tolkien, and I'm sure JRR would have liked this place. Main building is pine and nicely matured. Extension is new pine with a high tech shaded sundeck. We sat in semi shadeBier and Leberknödelsuppe with two knödeln. The menu is pretty much the universal Austrian mountain food. So why this one? Why was this one my favourite? I think because most of the mountain restaurants on the Alpendorf side have something of the motorway services about them. Catering and catering well for the passing trade. Wagrain on the other hand has lots of smaller places. And this one is the furthest away from that village. It's small and friendly. It's over the edge into Wagrain but only just. What a shame I only discovered it on the last day!"
