Let me start by saying the food is delicious. However, this was my first time, and in my humble opinion, the front of house needs work! As soon as we entered, we got our table right away, which was great. someone came out and did ask if we wanted some drinks or water within a couple minutes which was also great. However, after that it took around 25 minutes even with our menus on the edge of the table like we're ready to order before someone came back to see if we wanted appetizers or to even take our order. This is my kind of place! We are new to the area but could tell that this place has been a Salinas staple for at least two generations. Old steakhouse diner vibe with high back booths. Clientele were local businessmen and locals who want an elevated lunch or dinner. Although we weren't having cocktails, it was nice to know they have a full bar. We started with fried calamari. It was pretty good, but nothing we will order again. My wife ordered the avocado bacon cheese burger and I had the French dip. Plenty of roast beef on a French roll with very flavorful au jus. I gave this a pity star! You talk about down hill! My family hAs been eating here since the 60s! Nick Cominos would be rolling in his grave if he saw the food served tonight. We got a calamari appetizer that was so tough, like rubber! My husband got skirt steak two small skinny pieces tough as a boot! My risotto was like wall paper paste! We don't drink. We had water and the bill was over 100.00! I asked the server if I could order a cheeseburger for my son. He said no cheeseburgers during dinner!!! Needless to say we won't be going back.... the first time. was pleasantly surprised how beautiful looking it was inside. had the keilsalat and calamari steak. both were excellent. I also substituted for sweet with calamari and was given a generous portion grilled fresh vegetables. I am definitiw back.

the service was fantastic and the food was to die. I would recommend this restaurant to all carnivores. Oh yes, the dessert was great.
