I am a bit of a Cantonese foodie. I've been spoiled by the best (the former Forbidden City)! I'm a NY CA Chinatown fan and am pretty adventurous when it comes to Cantonese Szechuan cuisine. My son, who worked for Forbidden City for many years, led us in our quest to find authentic and high quality Chinese food in Hampton Roads. He introduced us to GuangDong and we haven't looked back since! This is the real deal. You know you're in an authentic Chinese restaurant, when you walk in and see roasted ducks and frogs hanging from racks and see a huge aquarium holding live lobsters and crabs! Most of their customers appear to be of Asian descent and I take that as a good sign of authentic cuisine....
This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart. It is really an amazing experience, from beginning to end. The staff is helpful and dedicated, the food is glorious, and the menu is so expansive, my husband and I would always come back, excited to try something new. The prices are large and the portions are so generous that we would always look forward to remains the next day. We loved to take friends to Guangdong button to share dishes at one of the big tables. Although we soon move out of the state whenever we return to Virginia Beach, we will definitely have another meal there.
The food was subpar at best, ordered shrimp and broc in garlic sauce, duck, salt and pepper shrimp. The duck was edible according to my friend but the broccoli was slimy and crunchy at the same time like it was already cooked, frozen and reheated. The salt and pepper had an odd taste and the hot tea we had to ask for it when others were brought out right away. There was two of us and we were only brought one cup, had to ask for another. Nobody was there when we got there so it was quiet but won't be back.
The food is good but service is a hard no the servers seem as if they have 0 personality whatsoever. We tried asking for a bowl and all we got was a glance and then they walked away. They don’t allow service dogs either, with us inconvenient to people who need them,. Overall the only thing good about this place is the food. Which is OK quality compared to the service. Without a doubt, this is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Virginia Beach! We visited on a Saturday evening, and while it was quite busy, there were still tables available. Our group of seven ordered beef chow fun, shrimp fried rice, mapo tofu, clams, kung pao chicken, and half a duck, totaling $118 including tips. There's plenty of parking in the shopping center. This was our sixth time dining here over the past few years, and the food is consistently excellent!
This restaurant is average... I've ordered the 3 bbq meat rice platter and wasn't satisfied. The roasted duck was ok. The cha siu was dried. The chicken was ok. The soup dumplings was ok although there aren't much soup inside the dumplings. The shrimp dumplings (ha gao) was not good. The egg custard buns are below average. I will not return to this place. The employee is very friendly...
The food here is consistently fresh and delicious, offering authentic Chinese cuisine, though it can be a bit on the expensive side. Fortunately, the generous portions often result in leftovers. The atmosphere is calm and comfortable, with ample seating available, and the service is outstanding. You won't be disappointed. Food rating: 5/5.
