At first glance, the restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, and you might be forgiven for thinking it appears a bit, well, shabby. But don’t let appearances fool you. Gurkha Chef has a lot of rustic charm and serves some truly amazing food.

Hidden behind Union Square is a little gem of a restaurant. Its location means it doesn't get a lot of foot traffic; during my visit, there was only one other table occupied. However, the food was wonderfully traditional and well-prepared. I opted for a starter that was more Nepalese than Indian, and it was seasoned just right. The prawn curry I had for my main course was decent, but nothing particularly remarkable. If you don’t mind a quiet atmosphere with friendly service and excellent value for authentic cuisine, this place is perfect for you. Starters are under £5, and mains range from £7 to £14.
