Went to Gussie's for the first time with my family since I was driving by. My daughter picked out an assortment of cookies and pastries while I purchased a pastel de tres leches, since their tres leches is one of the best in El Paso. I paid and we went out to the car where my wife was waiting. Inside the car, my daughter opened up the bag with the cookies and gave one to my wife and after she finished the cookie, had me immediately go back inside to purchase more! ??If you see the picture, it was one of those cookies with the red filling in the middle.

I love Gussie's, and go there at least once a week, but you really need to keep more change on hand. Repeatedly, I've been forced to charge $5 or $6 purchases because you didn't have change for a $20. That never happens to me any place else. That's not a big bill. To make it worse, you then tack on a 3.5% credit card fee, even though the only reason I paid with a credit card was because you didn't have change. That's not right.

What happened to this place. It use to be an El Paso icon. The lady working the register whispered to a employee to bring out something from the back because they were going sour (for quick sale). This blew my mind. We brought some sweet bread home and it was stale. I remember when i was a kid and getting Gussies was a real treat. Very very disappointed.

Tamales were delicious priciest in town 20 dollar a dozen. Menudo also very expensive. For a dozen of tamales 2 small menudos and 5 pieces of sweet bread also you have to buy the bread for menudo separately 4 it came out to over 45
