This is a great place to use as a base for a day walking in the local woods. We go here oftenwith visitors if we want to spend a bit of time outdoors. Nothing extreme, but nice walking, meeting the highlander oxen that roam sort of free in neighbouring nature reserve. After the walk, have a sit down outside (weather allowing) or inside and enjoy good quality, reasonable priced local meals with a beer or softdrink. This place is well worth including in your schedule. Note however, it is VERY popular in weekends, especially when the weather is good. This restaurant is a wonderful starting or destination point when you go on a hike in the beautiful nature of the 'Buurser Vene', which surrounds this eye-catching restaurant. In old Münsterland style 'Inn'. If only the staff would be more 'nice', then I'm just... in the title... Mostly outside the time, this restaurant is packed inside or outside, busy, full. You can notice that they cannot cope with the stress whether you are outside on the terrace or in the restaurant (and it is reflected in the time you want to wait for your meal). Made a trip with family to Haarmule and spent some time walking around the old mill. The place is lovely and I'm sure in Spring / Summer it will be even prettier. There is a large open beer garden where you can have drinks or food outdoors. There is also a nice restaurant if your in the mood for something a little more substantial and for younger kids there is also an outdoor play area. Last but not least, the water wheel and river are truly beautiful and take you back in time instantly to a time when the mill was working and grinding local grains.
This place is next to the gasthof Haarmuhle, on the border between the Netherlands and Germany. The old wooden sash swings, thunders and shakes when she deals with the water. We have been here on uncountable occasions and it has never dissapointed us. We love the good German food, weather you eat outside under the big trees or inside with the roaring fire. They are open all day for all kinds of meals.Sundays they service a big Sunday brunch with everything you can imagen, including a warm meal and dessert. Best part is, your table stays reserved, which makes it possible to go for a walk in the lovely surroundings between the meals.
