Harpoon Larry's Oyster

After numerous visits to Harpoon Larry's in Newport News, I feel a review is long overdue. This seafood haven has become a staple for me, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere, delectable dishes, and consistently excellent service. On my latest visit, I indulged in the fresh oysters, which were a briny delight, perfectly capturing the essence of the sea. The blackened flounder followed, striking a delicate balance between a crispy exterior and flaky, tender flesh, seasoned to perfection. The she-crab soup, a creamy concoction bursting with flavor, was comforting and rich, with just the right amount of crab meat. Been here a bunch and this was one of my least favorite visits however our waitress was absolutely wonderful. As someone who loves oysters and likes coming to this location as they get local and other northern varieties of oysters. Of the 9 varieties on the menu which were all VA most were out of stock or only had 1 or 2. This is disappointing and I hope is a supply chain issue. The restaurant floors were very greasy and when I went to use the restroom found my sneakers slipping as a I walked. But there was a visible sheen on the surface , a mixture of grease and humidity. My first stop after landing from California on work travel. It was $1 oyster Monday! Local ones were good actually. I only got 6 as it was 7pm and they ran out. Crab cakes were BOMB! I had to order a second, and got them blackened. Also got a side of fried oysters and those were even better! Good service at the bar and the ambiance was fun- people came for the seafood and it didn't disappoint

We dropped in with a party of 5, later in the afternoon. Service was outstanding and super friendly. The food was 100% on target. Three Po-Boys, sauteed scallops, stuffed mushrooms, and a big seafood variety plate. Also a perfectly served glass of whiskey. About $35 a person plus a generous and well earned tip.

Stopped by Harpoon Larry's again. The service and food was amazing We got House oysters, Rockefeller She crab soup
