Hearts Choices Vegan Cafe

We frequent Hearts Choices on Macleod Trail frequently and love love love the food and the staff! That Nan is a gem! Such a sweet lady!I was ecstatic when I discovered that Hearts Choices offers frozen fare at the Calgary Farmers Market. I have purchased their frozen curries probably close to 10 times and they are the same delicious quality as you will find at the restaurant. The reason that I am rating this location a 2 out of 5 is because the young man running the shop does not exhibit the same warmth and friendliness as the folks at the restaurant. Each visit he encourages me to buy $50 to get a "free item." This is probably part of his job but the delivery is flat and pushy. Nonetheless...

We visited the restaurant around 4: PM on a Friday. Only 2 other single patrons in the place so not busy. As my wife placed our order I looked to chose a table to sit at. They were all dirty so I asked a staff person behind counter to clean one for us. He did so as well as all the others while he was at it. We ordered 3 dishes to share as well as an order of the chicken satays. We also upgraded our rice to coconut at an added cost but were disappointed in the flavour. Our Pad Thai was cold and the vegetables were not fresh. The Sweet Ginger Tofu looked like they opened the package, cubed it, and put in a bowl. It had a bland weak sauce and was almost flavourless. This is a truly a vegan restaurant - no meat here! It is a cafeteria style restaurant- you order and pick up at the counter. We ordered one lunch with salad, coconut rice and 2 dishes and one lunch with 1 dish. The three dishes were had were the green thai currry, ginger tofu and sweet and sour veggies. The green curry was delicious and nice and spicy. The ginger tofu was in a sauce which did not seem to compliment or enhance the tofu much. Sweet and sour veggies were good. We agreed that we would return to try other dishes.

Since Heart's Choices opened their new location in the NE of Calgary we have been a handful of times. The service is impeccable, and the food is fantastic! I love their pad thai and curry dishes. My husband loves their French dip sandwich, poutine, and pulled jackfruit sandwich. It's amazing food for meat eaters and vegans alike. We typically take advantage of the delicious desserts as well - cheezecake and Baked from the Heart gf cupcakes. Sooooo good. I could definitely eat here at least once per week. Uhhhmazing!Vegan paradise!Not only do they have too many options to eat in the restaurant. Makes choosing so difficult! From the jackfruit poutine with vegan cheese to the Thai and Indian curries to the variety of desserts! The best part- you can pack frozen foods for a week of a road trip!Love, love, love it!

This is a small sweet spot with amazing food. The beef sate is ridiculous and the green coconut curry is exactly how I remember it from Thailand. The other clientele had a softness about them. The best part is there are products you can buy to make at home. A new favourite spot for us.

So nice to have a whole vegan cafe!__Just knowing that no one was tortured or terrorized for that food makes it already several steps up in my book.
